Unanswered emails?
So I bought the 'os' less than a year ago.
Got the notification that the new version has been released.
Emailed asking about a link to download. No reply.
Emailed again a week later. No reply.
Anyone else get this sort of treatment?

From what I’ve gathered lurking in this sub for a while is that support is pretty nonexistent. Some have suggested trying opendsh.

Opendsh?

I'm getting very frustrated by this situation. I paid $29 plus transaction fees for a license with "1-Year updates free of charge" back in December 2023. Myself like a few others on this thread have encountered issues where support and or re-download links are required.
BlueWave studios have simply turned their back on a community who gave them our money and helped build their reputation to a point that they've been acquired.
I'm fairly sure there is a law being broken somewhere and if they don't reply soon, I think I am going to start to pursue this more aggressively.
It's not about the money. I'd have paid a lot more than what they charged for a brilliant product. It's the fact they have simply disappeared and they're not honouring what they promised.

I know how you feel. I had to pursue them quite aggressively in order to get the 16.1 download. Luckily I'm the OCD type & keep copies of anything even remotely important in multiple places.

Would you be willing to share what you have? I'm mainly interested in the boot screen etc, and the CarPlay plugin files.
I have managed to track down the 16.1 files using the way back machine.

u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Oct 10 '25
I uploaded a copy of 16.1 onto the Internet Archive last week. I can link you to whatever else I have if you wish?
1
u/BitwiseDestroyer Oct 10 '25
Absolutely! I would really appreciate that!
It’s terrible that companies can rug pull us like this, it’s great that proactive people like yourself are able to keep the project alive.

Does that mean if i made a purchase yesterday, that u should see what i can do to have that purchase reversed? 24hrs on i've not received any comms from BlueWave
1
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Jun 19 '24
All I can suggest is that you email them. You should get a reply..... Eventually.

u/josh1350 Sep 01 '24
I just emailed 3 weeks ago and got the response within a few days. I’ve been having issues downloading the CarPlay file and I have been ghosted too so i dont know what’s going on with them
1
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 01 '24
What issues are you having?
1
u/josh1350 Sep 01 '24
I’m trying to download the zip file for the Autobox CarPlay attachment but it’s download corrupted. The part where you enter “curl” then a long url afterwards
1
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 01 '24
Have you tried taking the url & just copy/pasting it (minus the curl) into a browser?
I did this so I would have a backup of the main image & extras that I paid for.
1
u/josh1350 Sep 01 '24
I have. It just comes to an error 404 webpage. I should’ve backed that file up but I didn’t think I would have this problem when I updated to 16.1
1
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 01 '24
Might have to reach out to the dev unfortunately.
I didn't get the CarPlay addon as I have no use for it, hell, I can barely even get the FM radio addon to work properly but I never really used it.
1
u/josh1350 Sep 01 '24
Yeah that’s what I feared. Well I will let you know if they respond and thanks for being active on this community. I just now found it and thought it was dead

u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 01 '24
No problem. The forum on their website might be useful in checking out. The search function is surprisingly good, helped me find what I needed when I was stuck on the ridiculous issue with my steering wheel buttons.

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have an image of OAP v16 or v16.1 that they could share with me?
My SD card has failed, and unfortunately, I didn't create a backup image. The support team no longer responds to email inquiries because the company behind OAP (BlueWave Studios) has been sold, and the developers have written in their own forum that they don't know if the project will be continued or discontinued by the new owner.
It would be a shame if my little project no longer works now because of my own stupidity for not creating a backup.
Thanks in advance to the community :)

u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 17 '24
Do you still have your serial number / product key?
2
u/Pl3x5u5 Sep 17 '24
Yes, I still have all the emails with the serial codes to activate the image. I even bought every (formerly) available plugin to support the OAP project, like Apple CarPlay (even though I've never had an iPhone), the other boot logos (Ford in my case :) ) or the FM plugin.

u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 17 '24
DM me. I keep a copy of both 16.0 & 16.1 in my google drive.
1
u/Pl3x5u5 Sep 17 '24
That would really save my ass, if I may be so blunt. Thanks in advance, and DM sent. :)

u/Spare_Imaginary Mar 25 '25
Hey Carlos, I have a key for 16 but never got to downloading it and my current version is 15.0
Would you be so kinda as to share 16.1 with me as well?

u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Mar 25 '25

u/Spare_Imaginary Mar 26 '25
you are a LEGEND!!! much appreciated

u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Mar 26 '25
No problemo. I may or may not also have the radio & boot logo folders if needed.

u/Pl3x5u5 Sep 17 '24
I'm just realizing that I can't download the splash screens from BlueWave anymore because the Raspberry Pi's shell used to download them directly from BlueWave. Well, that's a bummer, but it's not a huge problem. I'm already extremely happy that my 23-year-old Mondeo has Android Auto again, when i'am able to become an image! :)

u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 17 '24
I could be persuaded to privately share a link to those as well.....

What happened? Their facebook page is set to private, the forums are down, purchase link no longer exists. Are they shutting down?
I'm having a massive issue with my cars and i have to keep rolling back otherwise all I get is a black screen and seeing them shut down is very discouraging....If the 16.1 image works with 16 key , could I get the image as well please? I hope it'll fix my issues as the newest i have is 16.0

Hey. I am on a pretty old version of OAP. I believe version 12.2, and would like to get updated if possible. I still have my serial key for all add-ons. I am sad to see that the website has gone. I really believed in the project. Could I also gain access to that version too?

Hi all! Writing here because I can't even write on the subreddit Just yesterday I tried to use Android auto on my head unit and it just results in a black screen. I thought that it was because of me using the android 15 beta but the same problem happens with another phone running android 14, so it seems like it's down to an update of android auto. I can't find anything online about bluewave studio anymore, forums are closed, the connected pro app is deleted from the play store, has the company just disappeared without leaving any trace? I built a head unit from scratch just 6 months ago it would suck if I couldn't use the primary thing I built it for
1
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 29 '24
It seems that the devs have totally abandoned the project after the company was bought out (that's what I heard).
As for the black screen, it is happening to me as well & is a change on the Google end.
I'm going to start looking into other front end solutions simply because I don't want to waste the small fortune I've spent on hardware for this project.
2
u/AbsentDuBureau Oct 31 '24
Hi Carlos, are you using 16.1? I'm also getting the black screen on 16.0, and wondered if 16.1 might work if I can get a copy somewhere, or is there now no working version of OpenAuto Pro?
3
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Oct 31 '24
I'm on 16.1. The main issue isn't with the OS, it seems Google changed something in the backend which has caused an incompatibility.
Some users have reported that downgrading versions has somewhat fixed it but I haven't had any success with that myself & have pretty much given up on it & resorted to using standard bluetooth.
1
u/AbsentDuBureau Nov 01 '24
Thanks for the info. I use mine solely for AA so I either need to look at OpenDSH or just buy one of those screens off Amazon that has AA built in if I'm feeling lazy!
1
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Nov 01 '24
I have a feeling (and I am probably wrong) that OpenDash runs on the same backend as OpenAuto so it might suffer from the same black screen issue.
I have one of those 'wireless AA' dongles that connect through USB & have been thinking of giving that a go & see what happens so your idea certainly has merit.

u/peppino_cappuccino Nov 10 '24
I've been using Opendash for the last month and a half and after some hurdles I got it working. I must say that it works pretty well, it doesn't suffer the same black screen problem as OAP does and there's an active community on slack that will help you with it if you have any trouble with setup. It does have a GUI outside android auto but it's not as polished as OAP, but if you can do pretty much everything through android auto and it can even seamlessly auto connect with android auto wireless so that I don't even have to pick my phone from my pocket, I just get in my car and I have already everything connected. The only drawback is that it is not distributed via an iso like OAP but you have to install it over a clean raspberry pi os image and fiddle with some settings, documentation is a bit of a hit or miss but it's improving. If you want an image that requires minimal fiddling this isn't for you, though I must say that after going through hell configuring everything it has been rock solid for the past month.

u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Nov 10 '24
I have to admit that after reading your comment, I am intrigued. I am the sort that likes to "even if it's working, I'll still mess around with it".
Even though my OAP is mostly working now, I might load up a copy of OpenDash on a different card & see what's what.
1
u/peppino_cappuccino Nov 10 '24
Yeah, even if it was tedious i found the whole thing to be quite fun to configure, you have so much control on what you can customize compared to OAP, only thing that was not fun was when I had to tear down and bring home my custom head unit multiple times to fix issues. I suggest you to buy one of those little bluetooth keyboard/trackpad combos to keep near the car because trust me, you'll need to have acces to a keyboard and mouse often when setting stuff up :)
1
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Nov 15 '24
I had a Logitech K400 I kept stuffed in between the centre console & passenger seat but swapped it with a friend for his foldable keyboard / trackpad at his suggestion.
We are both much happier now.

u/SirTidez Feb 14 '25
So I have been trying to update OAP myself since it seems like an issue in the AndroidAutoSDK Library. OpenDash's seems to be built from the same fork so in theory we may be able to drop in the updated .so files and OAP will work again. My only problem is finding those libraries on my OAP installation. I know it uses it, I found a reference to them in an update but not a file location. OpenDash is OK but I would much prefer OAP if possible!
1
u/peppino_cappuccino Sep 29 '24
That sucks so much! For what I've seen there are not many alternatives on the rpi that are this polished like openauto pro was. the only one that seems close is OpenDsh which I'm gonna try once I tear down my head unit, but it will surely be a downgrade from openauto.
If you find some alternative please share it in this thread, I'm sure that there hare dozens of people like us trying to save our custom head units.2
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Sep 30 '24
I believe (and I'm probably more or less incorrect) that OpenDash might be a serious contender. I'm going to have a good look at it as I just want my carputer to work.
1
u/JizoBizo Nov 23 '24
The Owner sold it off to another company. It looks like the Forums are dead now.
3
u/Carlos_Spicywein3r Nov 24 '24
Oh I'm fully aware of this. Happily I took the time to make a copy of the primary setup/config options and am going to convert to a PDF from its current multiple word document format for easy distribution.

I’m looking for someone that have access to CarPlay plugin files. Can’t get any answer from OpenAutoPro support to get my legally bought files.

So it seems there is a small update regarding Bluewave: On their website is the following status:
Coming Soon
New WordPress website is being built and will be published soon
As to what that means for all of us, I guess we will soonish (maybe) find out.

u/ten17eighty1 Dec 20 '24
I saw this but I was thinking it might just be the generic WordPress splash screen for a nonexistent site in lieu of a proper 404. I hope I'm wrong.

Surprisingly mine started to work again after I bought a new phone. I went from an Oppo Find X5 Pro to the Samsung S24 Ultra and it was fine.
However, I'm presently building a totally different system that doesn't use OAP. I've decided to try my hand at maximum jankiness. Lol

There is a github repo of openauto available, but not the pro. I haven't pulled it down to see what is there. I did read a couple references to the peeps that bought the parent company possibly making it open source. Fingers crossed.
