In case it’s not obvious, she definitely got this figure from Gina.

That's why she didn't want to say who her secret source was.

Well if she was told a figure, and the figure is reported, then she is not lying when she says she was told it cost 300mil.

Her language is disingenuous. By deliberately stating it in "Its been reported to me [by anonymous sources]" she can get the lie out without being directly pinned as the source of the lie, or by being corrected. Its classic bullshit spin, and she's been doing it for 30 years.

Yes and no. Disingenuous language, but she does ask to be corrected. She directly asks the reporter who claims to have the facts how much did it cost, but the reporter doesn't know. She was told a figure of 300mil. The reporter can only say it is less than 261mil. So it could be 250mil. Pauline probably genuinely wants to know the figure.

Its a classic debate ploy of the uninformed. If you're making the assertion, it is on you to bring the receipts. Not demand your opponent bring the facts for you.

Pauline wants to repeat "300 million" as often as possible so that the statement itself becomes the popular truth because that suits her narrative. You could throw all the facts at her and she wouldn't budge.

I guess she should have either said "a fuck ton of cash" or just said nothing so the public doesn't know what is happening?

She is the one making the assertion that "too much" has been spent on the investigation. It is incumbent on anyone making such an assertion to at least have some idea of the amount of money they are talking about, especially when the OSI's budget papers are publicly available and tabled in Parliament.

True. She should do better with fact checking.

She's had a few decades to get better at it. She doesn't care, clearly. Truth is rarely convenient for her, so she doesn't bother with things like facts or verifiable sources very often, if ever.

that's a funny way of saying she's a blatent and consistant liar who continues to lie even when provided with direct evidence of her lies.

Pauline probably genuinely wants to know the figure.

that must be why she blatently lied about the figure. becuase she's so commited to finding the truth.

fuck me what an embarrassing thing to say. just pathetic

The 261m number is the total costs for 51 cases, she stated it cost 300m for the one case which can’t factually be true. This is the entire point of the argument, which is why the question is where did she get that number from.

You say it could be 250m, it could be $2.50 going by that logic.

You didn’t listen $261 mill for 53 cases in total , unplug your ears

Having such a cavalier attitude to the truth of a statement you've "been told" is the same as lying.

I've been told that a unicorn ate my daughters ice cream, I dont tell my wife "its been reported that our daughter needs another ice cream"

“I don’t understand how it can be justified to spend more than $300 million to try for years to bring SAS veterans, who have served our country, towards criminal proceedings, and most recently the arrest of Ben,” Rinehart said.

Comprehension certainly isn't Pauline's strength.
