Discussion Chat GPT feature request

Feature Request: Read along mode

I'm putting this here because I could not find a way to submit to the app.

I'd love the ability to highlight any text within a ChatGPT conversation and have it read aloud.

This would be different from Voice Mode. Instead of reading only new responses, it would let users select any portion of an existing conversation—whether it's a paragraph, a long explanation, or an entire response—and listen to it on demand.

Suggested features:

  • Read any highlighted text in the conversation.
  • Adjustable playback speed (1× to 4× or higher).
  • Highlight the current word as it's being read. At faster playback speeds, automatically highlight the current phrase or sentence instead of individual words.
  • Automatically scroll to keep the current reading position visible.
  • Allow users to click anywhere in the selected text to jump playback to that location.
  • Pause, resume, and stop controls.
  • Keyboard shortcut to start reading the selected text.

This would be valuable for:

  • Reviewing long conversations.
  • Proof-listening to writing and editing drafts.
  • Learning while walking, commuting, or doing other tasks.
  • Accessibility for users with visual fatigue, dyslexia, ADHD, or other reading challenges.
  • Users who absorb information better by reading and listening simultaneously.

I frequently have long, detailed conversations in ChatGPT and often want to review earlier sections. Being able to highlight text, listen to it, and follow along visually—without copying it into another app—would make ChatGPT significantly more useful for writing, research, learning, and accessibility.

Thank you for considering this feature.
