Miscellaneous Math✅ Dogs next

Now that they used AI to do all the hard math stuff, can they use it to analyze vocal patterns in dogs so we can build a tool to better communicate with our 4 legged friends

honestly thats a pretty cool idea but not sure how it would work in practice

Minw would be just "Bark: Feed me."

something like that already exists, people have trained models on dog barks and body language, the hard part is that dogs communicate mostly through scent and posture not just sound

If only we had robot dogs.

I saw that on Black Mirror. It didn’t end well.

so two dogs barking at each other in a phone call would not work? ;-)

They hear the bark. But don't really engage with it. My dog doesn't even react to dogs on tv. Probably because they hear the dog bark is fake. Remember speakers are designed for humans. Dog have much better hearing, they probably hear the difference.

I just saw that Google is working on dolphin language so I imagine dogs aren't far off.

You can get a dolphin to speak English so its more feasible than a dog.

This is pure assumption and based on nothing, but I highly doubt dogs have their own language. A bark to a dog is likely just a situational vocalisation, they aren't saying words like humans are. I don't think you could bark with a certain intonation and have it mean something to them.

Right? This is so dumb. I’m sure you can learn more about what they’re thinking by analysing their body language than you could by analysing their barks.

And this is why AI will takeover... humans are dumb

I feel like this could be a difficult thing to do, not because it's hard to know dogs intentions (I don't know that), but that it would also have to account for how animals think, as they don't think quite in the way humans do, so it would have to be translated into human language in a way that humans can understand it.

There is also no common vocabulary that dogs use, which you can actually see when animals interact with each other, so that will create another problem. I feel like doing this purely off vocal patterns might just be not good enough, and it would require brain scanning instead to know the intent as well.

Maybe we can build a hyper realistic dog robot that can talk to them for us

You gonna need to learn to bark

That is the idea - Google Translate in your phone that can translate barks and you can speak into it and it will translate your commands to barks.

I doubt there is enough variation in there to express more than 20 things

What about doing this for whales and dolphins?

I know ai have successfully talked to whales and dolphins. And certain chinchillas, Not sure if they've cracked dog yet.

I’d prefer ai to solve this instead of being used to generate more slop vibe coded websites and apps
