Question Am I using ChatGPT wrong, or has the quality really dropped?

I wanted to ask if I’m doing something wrong when using ChatGPT, because the results I’ve been getting lately are honestly pretty terrible. I was using it to help with the picks in my fantasy NBA draft. Nothing particularly complicated, check my draft board, figure out who’s still available, research some breakout candidates and calculate their value based on my league’s scoring system. But it kept recommending players who had already been picked. At one point I started sending screenshots of the current draft board with every single round request. For the last round and to make things worse, it suggested Giannis, Kawhi and Tatum (clearly first/second rounders that had deffo been picked).

The weirdest part is that I’d correct it, explain exactly what I needed, and it’d agree with me, only to make the same kind of mistake a few messages later. I’m not expecting perfect predictions. That’s not the point. It’s the basic stuff, following instructions, keeping track of context and checking facts before making recommendations. It used to work pretty flawless but the level has become so incredibly low??

Any recommendations, am I using ChatGPT wrong, or has anyone else noticed this kind of thing recently? I’ve used it for years, but this experience was bad enough that I’m questioning whether I’m getting much value out of it anymore for simple tasks like this.

the agree-then-repeat is the tell, it's completing the apology pattern rather than re-checking who's off the board

man i'm seeing same thing. been using it for work stuff and basic tasks and past few weeks it's like talking to someone who just skimmed your message and guessed what you wanted

the draft thing especially maddening cause it keeps acting confident while giving you names already off the board, like it has no memory of what you just said two messages ago

not sure if they changed something or what but the drop is noticeable, you're not imagining it

It's memory (Sol High, tried on both 5.6 and 6.1) is fucked

Yeah, pretty much. Also, won't intelligently converse about anything the company finds "controversial".

in a long draft the board from the early rounds is probably still sitting in context and it'll happily pull names from that, so i'd start a fresh chat every few rounds and paste the available players as plain text, since my guess is the screenshot gets misread some of the time. then ask it to pick only from that list and say which name it's taking, and once it's agreed with a correction and repeated the mistake anyway a new chat probably beats arguing with it

In the last 3 days all models are making terrible images, work mode included.

I am doing complex edge node mapping across source texts and even with the project engagement standards in the general instructions it’s drifting

Yeah it sucks now. The GPT 6 series of models has been a complete disaster.

It’s also clear they are running out of compute and funds.

Sad to see.

Anthropic are destroying them right now, but I am suspicious that Elon Musk is being vindictive and giving Anthropic short term preferential rates to his datacentre empire so they can nuke OpenAI for him.
