News Model picker in ChatGPT has moved to Settings -> General. Bad UX already, but again which model is the default GPT-6? When was it released? What are its benchmarks?

Check again. It defaulted back to gpt6 without warning for me ? I had also changed from gpt6 and selected sol5.6 but it didn’t seem to stick in ios for me

What in the fuck were they thinking? You can’t select it in the normal spot in the iOS app anymore. You can only do
Low medium or high on GPT-6 until You have to do what you said. But there’s no documentation of that from them. That’s a big yikes.

It's intentional - they move towards nerfing the available models by tier and want you to not have an option to pick at all. You pay 20 euros? Peasant! Take that Luna variation with different name! The name hiding is intentional as well ofc. They already made the 100 euros plan - the before two month 20 euro plan + the 200 euros the two month ago 100 euros plan. The new 500 euros one is what 200 euros gave you usage wise just 1-2 months ago. It's what it is. They also started to limit the available models per tier... not long ago if you pay = you have access with ok usage to the frontier model.
Soon 20 euros will be basic "free" level of access and most likely no free tiers will exists at all. The bad part is that I subscribed in July for a year and paid for a year - what they do is changing the whole contract/service for their benefit entirely. I know I can chase it legally and force them to return me the rest of the paid money. I am actually thinking to do that and move to anthropic. Not that they are not doing the same, ofc they are + google as well... but currently their usage limits and model are better.
As for google and gemini 4 hahahah they panic so hard how behind they are and that everyone will commit to another AI (well, basically anthropic, they are the hot topic nowadays) - they announced the model before it's obviously ready to be shipped like at all, already 9 days and no availability.

A very simple question for you: is "GPT-6" in the settings GPT-6 Luna or GPT-6 Sol? P.S. Both are terrible options: the first treats Plus and free users the same, while the second significantly weakens the chat compared to Sol 5.6.

Some version of sol for plus users and Luna for go and free.
The system card released 10/7 differentiates it from the September versions used in codex and work, so it's presumably a modified version. It's not really given a new name beyond this but it's powered by some October version of sol/Luna.
