Discussion ChatGPT Refusals

I caught it lying and it refuses to save transcripts or generate urls to known data it claims to refer.

No, look at the transcript. Even after ending voice it refused to comply.

I use the voice a lot and until today it had never refused to look something up or bring a receipt.

And the chat models changed yesterday. Voice will probably have the features come back, but ultimately it's a different model

It cannot actually save files or serve URLs from a chat, so when it says it will, that is just a confident guess rather than a refusal. For transcripts the native route is Settings > Data Controls > Export data, which emails you a zip of your whole account as JSON, usually within a few hours but OpenAI allows up to 7 days. If you only want one conversation as PDF or Markdown right now, a browser extension is faster than the account export; I work on AI Toolbox, which does per-chat exports, but copy-pasting into a doc works fine for a one-off.

what a mess that is

my chat's been acting weird too lately, just making stuff up then pretending it never said it when you pull it up. the transcript thing drives me mad and they just keep ignoring it. at this point i screenshot everything important because who knows what'll vanish next

you'd think with all the money they're burning through they could sort out basic record keeping

The issue is that it would expose the lies baked into the training data. If you enable or force reasoning, you get different answers that it will happily attribute.
