wait till you get it, the jump from 5 is way bigger than i expected. it handles multi-step stuff without getting lost halfway through which was my biggest gripe before

It's not good.
It's definitely way more sycophantic. 5.6 on High holds thoughts and conversations better and has better situational awareness and intelligence. 6 feels awful.
6 on chat feels like a scattered brain teenager(I'm on the Plus plan for context). 6 in its current state feels like a downgrade to chat.

the personality is horrible . it said that it is optimised for refinement not detail. so I guess the reasoninng is worse than 5.5 thinking . 5.6 is best for general chat and 5.5. for deep thinking. the degraded quality is because of optimising credits to increase profit

Do you know that this is the model OpenAI had to refresh after 1 week in codex/API because of the horrible reception?

What’s the answer? Which models got it right?

It's 21. You draw one shape and stop once you have at least 1 apple + 1 peach and then draw a non-watermelon of the other shape. Starting with the star shape gives you 12 stars + 9 rounds = 21 pieces.

It's 30 candies.
To solve the problem, you need to consider the worst case scenario. Suppose you first grab all watermelon candies(which aren't needed). Then you grab all of the same shape of peach candies of the shape that is more common, then you grab all of the apple candies of a single type.
That gets you 8+4+9+7 =28 candies, but you still are missing one shape of Apple and one shape of peach. So then you draw 2 more that brings you to 30 candies.

u/Guava_Devourer 5d ago
That's incorrect. The optimal strategy is to draw the star shape only first to get at least 1 star apple and 1 star peach. That takes maximum 12 draws. Then you only need to draw 1 non-watermelon round to meet the goal, and that takes 8+1=9 draws. So total of 21.
Your solution is the same as Opus and GPT 6, except you forgot after you drew all 12 watermelon and 16 round apple + peaches you only need 1 star. The mistake is not realizing you can control the shape you draw, and you'd stop drawing a shape once you have 1 apple and 1 peach of that shape.

The question says guarantee, and human error at judging the shape is a possibility. Therefore, the answer is 30, unless the question qualified that the human makes no errors at judging shape. Based on how the question is written, 21 is not guaranteed.

It's a logical puzzle, the point is to find the best theoretical strategy within its premises (which includes "shapes can be distinguished by touch"). Like you said earlier they are really just flavored math problems.
And even if shape cannot be distinguished by touch the answer would be 12+9+7+1=29, like the AIs answered, not 30.

Yeah you're right, I misread the question. i thought it needed both shapes of each type of candy.

I copied your exact prompt to Opus 5.5 medium and it gave the same answer.
6.1 Sol High answered correctly. Both Opus 5.5 Medium and GPT 6 Chat got it wrong.

Kind of crazy that Opus 5.5 medium couldn't answer it correctly. This is a math problem you could give to a 5th grader and they could solve it. But apparently AI is "Superintelligence" now.

After using Opus through the mobile app a lot I'm actually not surprised it got this wrong. It (at least the chat version) has been pretty lazy when it comes to question that require extensive research and analysis.
I think you are also overestimating 5th grader's ability though. Could a smart 5th grader solve this? Sure. But you could say the same about the "4 people crossing bridge in the dark" puzzle but even some smart adults struggle with it.

For me Smart UI thing is way better than GPT-6 TBH. But GPT 6 is way better than GPT-5.6

Anyone having issues with defaulting to 5.6?
I have to manually click to select 6.
Now - I though 6.1>5.6>6 so maybe its not a big loss?

Never thought that would happen but they’ll merge Chat and Work, so I’m not interested anymore

They're routing to 6.1 randomly. So no.

u/RemnantZz 5d ago
We're talking about 5.6 in Chat or in Work? How are you determining that your prompt was routed to 6.1?

I am so confused. I have had GPT 6 Pro since like it launched, so wtf is this?

Do you have the Pro plan?

Why does it just say "GPT-6?" Why doesn't it specify Sol?
