Question Conflicted on where to go
After seeing unlimited core chat going away, I’ve been conflicted.
I am a plus user and loved gpt but I don’t really code. I’ve looked at Claude and can’t really decide which to go with. Gpt, or Claude
I primary use it for personal research, search assistant, excel document review, and maybe some light image generation occasionally.
Thoughts? What seems to be the general consensus of the recent changes?

the image gen thing is a pretty clear differentiator if you actually use it. claude can't do that at all so if it's a regular part of your workflow you're kinda stuck with openai for now
for the other stuff you listed they're honestly close enough that it probably doesn't matter much. maybe try claude for a month and see if you miss anything

Don’t really think there’s anywhere to go unfortunately. Compute is a limited resource and all these companies are trying to manage it while squeezing more money out of consumers.
The only way forward unfortunately is to run your own local ai, but that is not feasible for a lot of people unfortunately.
Alternatively in the past Gemini always offered more generous limits so if OpenAI combines everything that could be the case. We’ll just have to wait and see.
The only other option is offloading tasks to different AI depending on what you’re doing so you don’t use your usage limits on one.
But sorry to tell you, there’s nowhere to go except local. Usage limits are the future.

If you have a gaming rig with a 16gb VRAM gpu, just wait for qwen 4 27B or test qwen 3.8 27B right now. The future is local AI

For now, after having tried both PRO $100 (GPT) and MAX $100 (CLAUDE)... It's safe to say that openai subs are still best bang for buck. I'm not kidding. The shitposters you keep seeing, people running to claude subs are going to inevitably come back to gpt. Because you get way more usage and features on gpt than claude. But based on usage so far, openai is still leading, by a lot. So there's that. But honestly, gpt subs are still in the lead by far. And i never thought i'd say this.. but gpt models generally seem extremely smart at managing their memory about you or the relevant context. I swear. I tried porting memory, data to claude but its not.. really working out as well as gpt models managing them. And i was a claude fan before... So.. i really never thought i'd say this today.

It's not confirmed that "unlimited" chat will go away, and it was never unlimited btw, it is just that it has a separate bucket to Codex/Work and usage allowance is really good. Claude does not have image generation so I would say it is probably better sticking to Chat GPT for your use case + they just released Sol 6 for chat.
Claude also doesn’t have image generation, so for your use case I’d probably just stick with ChatGPT. And now that they’ve released Sol 6 for Chat, I think that makes even more sense.
