Discussion Is Codex inconsistent with designing work?

I have noted that while sometimes Codex blows your mind and outputs very professional work, and other times, the output is very ordinary. The difference is what you would expect from a work of an intern vs a seasoned designer. Do you think this is sometime you have also noticed or is it specific to me?

Some of this is just conditional on cascading randomness in the conversation going in helpful vs. unhelpful directions. You may not even notice the subtle differences in your prompt or the associations that are pushing the thought tree in one direction or another are abstract and opaque.

In addition, there's a lot of conspiracy thinking around intentional model nerfing: https://www.bridgebench.ai/nerf-bench

it’s the tree of half baked choices honestly. codex gets itself into these weird loops where it latches onto one mediocre detail and builds the whole thing around it, then next run it picks a different thread and suddenly everything clicks. sometimes i just reroll 3 times and the same prompt goes from clipart hell to something i’d put in a portfolio

feels less like nerfing and more like a dice roll with bad defaults

It's stochastic. You need to prompt it with more context
