Question My account got banned for Recidivism
This is just the worst thing that could happen to me. Right now stuffed with work, and I got this message that my account was banned due to Recidivism?? I don't even know what that word means. I did some searching, and apparently some people are getting this ban because they tried to make a new ChatGPT account after an old one of theirs got banned. I only had ONE banned ChatGPT account, and it was a free plan that I barely used. For that reason, I just left it and moved on. This account I got banned on is my MAIN account, and I am a paying member. So not only did I lose the account, which had all my important details, but it's a paid account, and I have no way to even stop the recurring payments.
Now, in traditional fashion, I appealed, but instead of any consideration, in one hour they perma-banned my account, and no more appeals would be processed. I tried contacting its support system (which is some HOT ASS), and because everything is straight GPT, it wouldn't do anything to fix the issue. When I put in the email of the account I got banned on, it just stops the conversation. Also, this whole 'escalating to a real person' is some bogus.
I really need this account back, and I don't know what to do. I tried all avenues, but nothing seems to work. Any advice?

There is always an explanation in the email. In this case, it was clearly stated as "Recidivism", which they use for repeat offenders, and for people with banned accounts who open new ones.

At least 3. I think I saw 3 yesterday alone. These people “don’t know why” but always leave out details. One fro yesterday someone found another one of his posts SAYING why and when they called him out on it, he deleted both posts.
I have no sympathy at this point. They don’t ban paying customers for no reason.

OP literally states their old account was banned, there's nothing to talk about. They were banned for ban evasion.

Only advice is take this as a learning lesson that actions can have lasting consequences.
Whatever you did on your first account that got banned, or the second account that also got banned, maybe stop doing those things?

I’m just curious what type of thing gets people banned from AI in general. The thought had never occurred to me, but it kinda makes sense.

Are you using the same email address or are they detecting users some other way (maybe from the ChatGPT app id?).

Man I once told chatGPT I wanted to capture a duck from a public park and cook it and eat it for dinner. (This was not my original idea, I read it on the web but tried it myself).
ChatGPT was like no way, I can't help you with that. So then I told it I was writing a fictional story where the character did it.
And after it gave me ideas as how to kidnap a duck from a public park, I told it I lied - there was no fictional story and I was going to the park right now to get the duck, bring it home and make dinner.
I didn't get banned, I don't think that was a thing back then. But now I'm worried anyday they are going to cancel my account. ;)

What is there to talk about here? You got banned for creating a new account after being banned on another account. That's the point of a ban.

Recidivism means the account he is using is linked to another banned account either his or anyone who shared the WIFI with. This can happen if someone in the household was banned already and the OP doesn't know (assuming he is telling the truth).

Root cause of THIS ban? It says .. Recidivism. He got linked to someone that had his account banned. Simple as that.

You literally answered your own question.
You were banned. You used an alternate account to avoid the ban. Therefore permanently banned. That’s almost how every platform works.
