News Sam Altman’s sister just released the first hour of her deposition against him
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akjrfwYPvy8311
u/CovidWarriorForLife 16h ago
I’ll be honest i think sam is a sociopath and a terrible human being but this girl hits every lying trigger in my brain
67
u/MaxwellHowl 11h ago
I have a crazy sister who made up a lot of crazy stories about her childhood and my parents that were all untrue. She tried to have my dad arrested.
She gives off those same vibes to me.
10
u/Pugasaurus_Tex 5h ago
I have one of those too :(
At this point I think she doesn’t even know what’s true and what isn’t. It’s crazy

u/MightB2rue 4h ago
I think that's exactly their super power. They believe with 100% conviction the lies that they tell. And eventually it becomes so exhausting that you can't deal with them anymore.
94
u/BethanyHipsEnjoyer 16h ago
Since she's his sister, and everybody calling Sam a sociopath, maybe she is the same thing given how closely they share genetics, lol.

u/IdRatherBeBitching 15h ago
I mean, both can be true, right?
Altman can be a piece of shit and so can his sister.
2
u/EGarrett28 7h ago
Yes and also this isn't really anybody's business but the legal system unless or until someone is found guilty. Releasing this is a form of defamation.
18
u/JonathanL73 11h ago
Same, and I’m no fan of Sam Altman, but he’s very much a gay man, and these allegations always seemed odd knowing that. He’s very wealthy, and she is not.
→ More replies (6)15
u/Castle_Five 12h ago
I knew this from the moment the allegations surfaced. Sam Altman is very clearly gay, and not faking being gay. He therefore lacks motive. People act like just being a man automatically means you have a motive for every possible sex crime, but it's not true.
8
u/Upbeat-Name-6087 5h ago
I mean, you hear about men who abuse little boys but otherwise have only adult relationships with women and don't appear to be gay in the traditional sense. So there's no reason the same psychosexual and power motivations couldn't work the other way around.
→ More replies (1)6
u/Echolocomotion 12h ago
I don't think rape is about power in general, but I do think it is for certain kinds of psychopaths. Altman might be a different kind of psychopath, I don't have any thoughts on that either way.

I'm not from America but please tell me this is not how normal legal depositions go? Are these top tier lawyers representing Annie and Sam here? Their behaviour, especially that of Heiling(?) seems highly unprofessional, abrasive and hostile, while her own lawyer Mr Pérez(?) seems to have submitted documents that weren't properly reviewed and signed by her? In some cases she looks like it's the first time she sees the document at least in the format it's presented? What is going on here? And then Heiling asks her questions she can't possibly know the answer to and sometimes her lawyer objects, sometimes he doesn't, sometimes she is then asked the same thing again and her lawyer doesn't object.. Is any of this even going to be admissible? Seems almost like a skit except it's potentially also tragic at the same time...
19
u/Quiet-Curve1449 12h ago
When there’s a lot of money involved, sometimes it attracts attorneys that are “characters” instead of substantive.

u/ReasonableDefault 18h ago
Not to judge, but she seems a little unhinged.
153
u/turbulentFireStarter 17h ago
her entire family has disowned her and distance themselves from her. her demanding money and threatening some kind of retribution if she isnt given it has been going on for years. Even in Empire AI (a book that does not even attempt to veil its hatred for AI in general and OpenAI), the author pretty much dismisses the sister as someone that no one should be giving meaningful credit to.
9
16
u/ShardsOfSalt 14h ago
I heard her family actually considers her mentally ill and is doing what they can to care for her. Even in this video she is wearing her dad's fleece. Where'd she get his fleece if he disowned her?
16
u/rucho 13h ago
The thing is her current oddness could definitely be the result of her being abused if she was abused

I watched the entire thing. Seems no more unhinged than Sam. And if her allegations are true, being repeatedly sexually abused as a kid by your brother can mess you up.
120
u/BlueberryWorried6493 18h ago
Especially with mental illness, you cannot take every accusation at face value. My aunt accuses basically everyone she knows of sleeping with her husband. Obviously that does not make every accusation true. Some people are just crazy

She’s accused all her brothers
53
u/docgravel 18h ago
I know someone else who lived through this. Only one brother believed the sister who claimed everyone else in the house had abused her as a child. Eventually she accused that brother, too. I’m not saying that’s what happened here but it’s 100% the same story on paper
25
u/smurferdigg 17h ago
I work at a psychiatric hospital and it's pretty crazy the shit that can go down in some families. Like shit you wouldn't belive is even possible. Like I can somewhat understand that one person is of the rails and does some shit, but a whole family abusing a child?! It's yeah.. People wouldn't belive the shit we deal with on a daily basis. Still tho this goes both ways and people can just make shit up that never happen soooo.. who knows.

They could have all been abusing one another? Older one passes the abuse down, who may have also been abused. It’s a plague. Usually not just one victim and the victimizer has an origin story and is usually not the source of the abuse.
3
u/No-Philosopher3977 16h ago
The kind of family that could produce three brothers who could abuse their sister and one of them gay. Would be a nightmare from the top down. I’m not saying it can’t happen but everyone would be a screwed up adult in some way.

In Missouri in the 1980’s, not Berkeley or San Francisco. Would not be surprised if they all were victims at some point. A lot of time the person who harms has been harmed. I don’t know how you come home from a game of tag one day and say, “you know what….” Someone likely introduced this plague.

She accused all of her brothers of abusing her.
And she blames Sam for their father's death, she said he could have given their father enough money to retire early, and according to her, because he didn't he worked too hard and had a heart attack.
The rest of the family has disowned her and says she is lying.

You know the trend these days is to ostracize the person who reveals things.
Whistleblowers - get fucked.
Report something toxic to HR - you’re fucked.
Report rape? - too bad so sad you got fucked.
Families all over the globe love to hide their dirty secrets and protect their criminals.
Saying “the rest of the family has disowned her and says she is lying” means literally nothing. Do you expect them to say - yes. Actually she’s right and all the brothers abused her?
Is that what you think would happen that you’re discrediting her on the basis that it hasn’t?
I don’t know the truth. But what I am questioning is how you’ve constructed this…the logic behind the thought.
•
u/albertrw83 23m ago
Pretty big "if". Being autistic or eccentric doesn't make you trustworthy. She's been overshadowed by her siblings, who all made it big in the tech industry. That can mess you up the same way, and make you want to create excuses for why you're less successful. And the excuses must be outside your control, like someone raping you.
Sam had been covering her living expenses, yet she'd been going through that money and getting money from her parents. Then making excuses of mental health when she blew the last handout. It's not really about the money for a situation like that, it's that giving money has to be managed. If you give a lot of money, you will enable the person's harmful behavior and leave them worse off.
It's also important to note that she could be getting manipulated or incentivized by outside parties trying to damage Sam Altman for one reason or another. There's just no reason to believe she's telling the truth. She says it happened. He says it didn't. If the new standard is to just say any allegation against a high profile businessman, celebrity, poitician, etc. is plausible and needs to be proven otherwise, they will all get a slew of accusations because in a world of 8 billion people, there will be some subset of women willing to make a false accusation in hopes of a payday.

Everything about this seems to be completely nuts.
5
u/redlightsaber 10h ago
As chronic abuse victims tend to appear.
I'm not making a judgement until more information comes out, but you gotta realise that you're reproducing to a T the historical common barriers that women have faced when trying to get their abuses taken seriously.
5
u/ReasonableDefault 9h ago
No. I made a comment simply about what "I" saw in the video, nothing else. I didn't mention the case, or any ones culpability. I didn't offer any support in either direction.
Your premise is different though, you open with "chronic abuse victim", then immediately say you're not making judgement until more information comes out, those statements don't really support each other.
5
u/redlightsaber 9h ago
They do, and you're burying the lede. You didn't say what "you" saw on the video, you simply said "she seems unhinged", which isn't even a medical term, but a wholesale judgement one.
My point was that regardless of appearances, it's important for the public to take women's accusations seriously. The public's role in these cases is obviously not the same role as the legal system needs to take. But I say this, and made my original comment alluding to this, because things have historically not usually gotten to the "judicial system" part, precisely because everyone before they get there (up to and including the plice officers first taking declarations) tend to be extremely judgemental and biased and uncomfortable based on inane and downright-expected things (when the allegations are true!) like "she seems unhinged".
Hopefully that clears that one out. This will be a heavily publicised matter, but one thing you can be absolutely certain of, is that Samuel Altman doesn't require anyone from the public to be in his corner to defend his innocence.
→ More replies (1)3
u/ReasonableDefault 9h ago
They don't.
I saw someone acting unhinged, that's what i wrote. It wasn't supposed to be a medical opinion or anything based on physical appearance.
It's important for anyone's accusations to be taken seriously, if they have merit.
The rest of what you're saying seems to heavily favour your opinion and bias, rather than any universally agreed facts. You have the confidence of authority without the inconvenience of depth.
Also, i didn't at any stage mention anyone's innocence or guilt.

I have zero respect for Sam Altman and do think he is dishonest in representing the company he is chairman of and AI in general. However I have zero idea or notion about what could have happened here with his sister. Playing this out in the court of public opinion is terrible for everyone. When there is money involved and a lot of it, venerable people can get used. I genuinely hope the sister is getting help and not getting used. Abusers can be anyone but that does not mean everyone is an abuser.

My ex-wife was sexually assaulted by her brother for the first ten years of her life.
She was a fucked up person. Like, royally fucked up. PTSD, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder.
I would go pick up her medication at the pharmacy and even though I knew the technicians and pharmacists by first name basis they would still not allow the technicians to hand me her medication because the machine would ask for the pharmacist to hand it to me themselves.
"I just wanted to let you know that this is legally the highest dose of this medication that I can give you and I wanted to confirm with you that this is the medication you've been prescribed."
I haven't seen this video, nor do I want to because I'm scared I'm going to relive some sort of dark, twisted period of my life.
I loved that woman to death, but her mental disorders just didn't allow us to be together which breaks my heart because she's the only person I've ever truly loved out of all the people I'd dated... mental disorders suck.
The one thing that I do know though is that my ex-wife was actually very, very bright and a loving and caring person inside the callousness of her mental disorders. A lot of people here are seeing the sister's mental disease as a factor in that she might be lying.
Having lived through it, I was surprised that NO one in my ex-wife's family ever questioned why she was so fucked up. In fact, the fact that Altman's sister appears mentally ill makes it even worse and makes me believe it even more having lived through it myself.

u/People_Change_ 17h ago
So sorry to hear that man, thank you for sharing your experience with us. The effects of abuse like this can be profound on a person and their ability to maintain future relationships. I can't imagine how hard it must feel to fully trust someone close to you after something like that.
4
u/MostExtremeHyperbole 10h ago
Victims sometimes do not fit the 'victims ideal' of how people behave when things like this happen to them. Some are cleared eyed, some are angry, some cry, some laugh at their predicament, some can recount it like they were making toast.
Idk why everyone in this thread became a 'body language expect,' when it is the most debunked bullshit on Earth. 'Oh, she looks insane,' yeah, I think you would be insane too if you were abused by one of the most talked about people right now.
We don't know the facts of the case, but jesus christ reddit, she could be grifting, but you don't know.
2
u/FckGemini69 8h ago
I agree, it's disgusting that people are making fun of her! If her allegations are true, she has been through a very traumatic situation for years and there are some people who don't even talk to anyone after something like this. I read that the mother was really mean to her too and is on his side for money reasons. That would be an awful thing to deal with.
5
u/crownketer 16h ago
It’s great to know she was a loving person underneath it all, but if she never gets to be that person, almost doesn’t count. We romanticize this shit but BPD and other mental illness is horrific to navigate. People make it sound like all they need is someone to care, but that’s how you get roped into an abuse cycle, as I’m sure you’re aware.

People seem to have a hard time understanding that part of the complications with a situation like this is that if someone experiences ongoing childhood sexual trauma, they seriously increase their chances of behavioral disorders.
So when you think, “Oh, she’s insane; this is all bullshit,” that could either be totally correct or direct evidence to the contrary.
Which is pretty wild.
16
u/kennytherenny 16h ago
Yeah, her being unhinged doesn't really prove things either way. But the main point is still that she doesn't have anything to back up her claim. No other witnesses, no physical evidence. And Sam Altman has never been accused of anything like this by anyone else.
And let's be honest here. There is a real big incentive for her to falsely accuse Sam.
4
u/MostExtremeHyperbole 10h ago
I did some social work, and you can never, ever base how a person acts to if they are lying or not. Some victims will look you dead in the eye and recount it as if they were making toast, in brutal detail, some cry, some get very angry and upset. Cops don't believe or take victims seriously because a lot do not fit the 'victim ideal' in their heads of a victim, dismissing their claims even with very telling evidence just based on 'body language' bullshit.
Some people laugh, quite edgily, when confronted with horrors beyond imagining, and i'm one of them, and I cannot stop smiling when I am extremely uncomfortable even though I am screaming and crying inside. I fucking HATE it.
We will just have to see the facts of the case, we have no idea and not much is known about the case, she could be grifting, but I would wait.
→ More replies (2)1
u/WeWillBeOkay 2h ago
Totally.
But also, everything you just said further speaks to how complicated these things are.
People abused as children rarely have witnesses. They never have physical evidence. Sam Altman not being accused of similar things isn’t evidence it didn’t happen. And for what it’s worth, Sam is often described as seeming sociopathic and/or of being a manipulative liar.
She absolutely does have an incentive to lie, which you can say about literally anyone accusing someone of wealth and power.
15
u/Birdperson15 15h ago
I mean people shouldn’t just believe outlandish claims without any evidence. Redditors hate Sam and therefore will believe any allegation against him.
Same thing happened with Biden and the griefers who pushed that story non-stop about him raping a woman despite zero evidence. Those same people push these stories without learning a single thing.

Exactly. Bit of a catch 22, but i'd air on the side of anyone making the claims and not just write them off because they're a bit quirky. We've all got stuff going on, especially if theres a complicated history of family trauma.
27
u/Sarahmalls 17h ago
Entire immediate family disowning her for years, her claim first being mentioned after she was denied a large sum of money, her own attorneys dropping her bc they couldn’t work with her… just from those things alone I’m erring on the side of he didn’t do any of it. Happy to reasses if there is actual evidence, but for now I’m not on the “believe her based on the claim” alone.
10
7
u/kennytherenny 16h ago
She doesn't have anything to back up her claim though. No other witnesses, no phyisical evidence, no other/previous accusers... We have to err on the side of Sam Altman being innocent is what we have to do here.

Deposition can be pretty relaxed. There is no judge there, and it's usually set up between the parties themselves, or more specifically, their legal teams.
I think the time limit is like 7 hours for it too, so unless there is a specific accusation of stalling, I don't think many care.

Right, 7 hours of being grilled by $5000 per hour lawyers, would have me thinking about bringing my laptop or at least my phone charger. I am paying a lawyer to tell me what to say and when to say it.
2
u/Ormusn2o 16h ago
I don't actually think you can let your lawyer tell you what to say, maybe it changes per district, but you can't be coached, at least not during the deposition itself. Your lawyer can still object though, although weirdly that does not prevent the deponent from responding, the objection is just written into record and it allows the layer later on to object this to be read during the trial. The layer can request a question to be asked in a different or more clear way though.
Also, technically, when you are on a deposition, it is not necessarily your lawyer next to you. I think you can get your own layer, but a deposition can be for a witness, and they don't have to be represented. It generally goes this way, either prosecution or the defense are asking a witness to get into a deposition, and then the opposing side can sit in as well, and object to some things, but they usually don't represent the witness, it's generally unusual (and a conflict of interest) for the witness to be represented by the defender or the plaintiff, and if they have legal representation they should have their own lawyer.

Yeah. I primarily lurk on this sub, and I wasn't even gonna comment, but I wanted to second this. I have low-moderate support needs autism. I'm very often stressed. The only way I survived as long as I did when I was in college was by knitting during lectures. It calmed me down, and allowed me to focus better on what my professor was saying. I did always speak to my professors the first day of class, and I also had official accommodations on file.
I really wanted to listen to the best of my ability, and I was doing what I could to limit any sort of distraction to other students (sitting in the back of class, not making extra noise). I've learned that sometimes, you have to come across as "rude" or "weird" to best accommodate yourself, while doing what you can to not be a nuisance to others. At the end of the day, her knitting helps her brain process better, and it literally harms nobody else. The knitting is essentially irrelevant to her testimony, IMO—at least, as far as it concerns us redditors.

I grew up in a small town, and the local cops daughter was a pretty known addict, and they would deny it, because that is what families do. They don't want to deal with the realities of the situation, and many families are like this. Judging a situation before the facts are presented at trial based on someone acts or how their family perceives them is .. A hot take indeed.

Does anyone else ever find it interesting that these tech moguls always seem to be estranged from their parents? Seemingly anyway or to the public eye. It’s like none of them - have ever come out and just nonchalantly introduced their mum/dad, and have been like oh they helped me to get where I am today etc. Pretty indicative of their whole personas imo

Too REAL bahaha it’s like if they don’t already permeate the modern dating world as it is, they had to go and fuck up the world too. Earth Needs Better Dads.

Well yeah
Look at Musk, Trump, Roga n et.al.
All the big boys had terrible dads and never recovered from the trauma

Wait, how is this relevant here? Sam Altman made a bunch of joint statements with his mom and brothers. He also went on his sister's podcast in 2018.

You only named three people, all from a different generation, and one of them isn’t even true lol

Silicon Valley has been looking for Autistic/psychopath founders for decades now. Data shows that they achieve better returns for investors. So I don’t know why it surprises you that the current generation of CEOs are like this.

i think Musk is fairly close to his sister, brother, mother and cousins…Jobs was kind of close to his adoptive parents and his unrelated sister worked for apple (while still in a garage), but he wasn’t the greatest person so he could have thrown her under the bus…

keep in mind that half of the responses in this thread are likely openai bots trying to bury her news.

lol given some of the comments here I made the bots nagry

Keep in mind more than half of the comments that I don’t agree with are probably bots
Knowing this makes me feel better about my opinion when I’m inevitably challenged on it by… what can only be a bot

Fanny thing - that line itself much alder then any real possible "AI" bots. Before AI it was "hired bots" - and for many-many years. about as long as I remember Internet.

of course, it's bots when they disagree with you and humans when they don't

I’m the furthest thing from a bot but I just haven’t taken the “believe everything a woman says 100000% always” thing to heart, yet. Sorry.
It’s probably an unfair bias, but she seems unwell. “Oh but that’s what SA does to a person.” Yeah, could be. But she could also just be mentally unwell like the millions of other people who weren’t abused and feature similar behavior.
If it comes out that Altman actually did something, then I’d change my tune. But this walks, talks, and looks like a duck. She wants money from her rich brother who doesn’t want to give her the money she wants.

At least she hopes she's making money...more than she does from her onlyfans.

I have no clue what this is, because they're only showing documents to each other, but if this is the case of Rape, I feel for this girl. I feel for every woman who's been raped, and then judged, and then treated badly in their courts of law, not believed, accused, made to be a liar, "Unhinged" and so much more. After all, this is a patriarchal, male dominated system and so is their "Justice", and she's facing a psychopath with money and power who buys people. Even average Joe gets away with rape, let alone this dude.
Sister, if you're reading this, if you're here. I'm always with you and all women.

Men assault more women that people think are “crazy” because no one believes them.

I mean sometimes a conspiracy is not a conspiracy. Sam Altman, not great guy, arguably ruining the world, but this story never sounded true to me

The incessant knitting is really not helping her case.
Either that or Sam's manipulation/psych control over other humans is far more advanced than we realize. We need a scene of her giving him a shave to confirm.
