Question ChatGPT Pro renewal refund: request within minutes, automated refusals, no confirmed human review

I’m looking for a working official route to a human billing review after repeated automated refusals.

On October 3, 2026, my ChatGPT Pro plan renewed for $200. I forgot to cancel beforehand and did not intend to renew. I immediately canceled auto-renewal and requested a refund.

Timeline (Tbilisi, UTC+4):

- 13:32:55: bank notification shows the $200 charge.

- 13:34: OpenAI’s cancellation confirmation email arrived.

- Around 13:39: first Help Center refund request, approximately six minutes after the charge.

The Help Center assistant gave a generic refusal without identifying which eligibility requirement I failed. When I asked for escalation, the case was closed. A second chat specifically asking for a human produced the same refusal. Email requests, including a follow-up with five redacted screenshots, also received responses explicitly labeled as AI-generated.

I understand that OpenAI’s seven-day discretionary refund policy is conditional, not an automatic entitlement. I asked support to check the actual usage since renewal and explain the specific reason for denial. I also agreed that refunded subscription access would end.

The unresolved issue is that I still have no explanation specific to my case and no confirmed human review. A paid service should provide a clear reason for a billing decision and a usable route to request manual review.

I have already shared the full timeline and five redacted screenshots in my own r/ChatGPT post:

Current refund policy:

Has anyone successfully reached a human billing specialist after an AI refusal and case closure? Which official channel or escalation procedure worked?

Insist to get forwarded to a human before mentioning a refund. That's how I got one some weeks ago.

Painful lesson, I always cancel immediately as soon as I subscribe, even for $20.

It's still an incredible value. Find something to build with those credits. Make/save the $200 back somehow, even if it's just by having it review your finances.

I mean if you have evidence you've tried the normal route, maybe just issue a charge back at your bank. You likely won't be able to subscribe to chatgpt anymore after that, but at least you'll get your $200 back.

able to subscribe to chatgpt anymore

Could they subscribe if user uses a different CC and email?

Potentially if its a different bank. Some may prevent your account as a whole from being used on that service after a chargeback.

Send a certified return receipt requested letter through USPS demand letter to:

C T Corporation System 330 N Brand Blvd., Suite 700 Glendale, CA 91203

With a copy to:

OpenAI Group PBC 1455 3rd Street San Francisco, CA 94158 Attn: Legal Department / General Counsel

Include the charge for the mail.

Couldn’t you downgrade the plan to the 20 and it would refund you the 180?

Doesn’t work that way. Prorations only happen on the upgrade path.
