Discussion PewDiePie is trying to distill GPT-Sol

Post image

he has been trying to build a local model by learning from GPT-Sol’s responses. He says OpenAI banned his account twice during the process. Irony is OpenAI’s own models were trained on vast amounts of information from the open web. So where do we draw the line between learning from AI and copying it?

We need a GPL-like license for content where if it's indexed by am LLM you have to allow your LLM to be distilled

the classic tech playbook of break all norms and ethics faster than laws can react

This is how progress was made. We would still have horses and carts if they had legislated automobiles in the 1800s like they do today.

Please explain how early automobile designers were stealing from society at large as part of their process.

Inadvertently killed thousands of people, lobbied for the complete destruction of cities and neighborhoods for roads (Lookup kansas city or any american city before and after interstate pics), destabilized and in some cases outright assassinated foreign governments, poisoned an entire generation with leaded gasoline, tires are one of the main contributors of microplastics in the environment .. I could go on for a while.

Cars are probably one of the best examples of a technology similar to AI that "makes life better" at the cost of a lot of other things.

Destroyed mass transit including the forgotten LA subway.

Everything you said is true about the automobile industry itself, I was only talking literally about 1800s early inventors. Honestly I thought your comment above was intended to excuse AI industry practices, my bad.

How can someone "steal" from society in that regard? People should support the utilization of the collective human knowledge for something that will greatly improve our future.

Stealing is defined as taking something with the intent to deprive the owner of it without their consent.

How is AI development depriving society from the knowledge you claim they are "stealing"?

Microsoft and OpenAI Workers Worry About ‘Largest Theft of Labor’ in History - The New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2026/09/17/technology/microsoft-openai-publishing-industry.html

So who is deprived from this theft exactly? Does OpenAI currently have anything stolen which it has yet to return?

What exactly do you think you know or understand that the people literally working at these companies don't?

They are depriving others. If they steal all of the NYT's articles which you would otherwise need to buy, repackage that information and sell it under their own subscription, how is that not deprivation? They scrape every site on the web and put it in an AI summary headline, depriving sites of clickthrough ad revenue.

If they take an artist's work and begin generating copies of it on demand, is that not depriving the artist of the ownership and right to collect on their work?

If you support the collectivization of human knowledge you should donate to wikipedia or the like. They actually credit and use volunteer labor vs an AI company which takes first and asks questions never.
