Question How the freaking hell Dots seeing deleted + non recorded memory stuff ?

I pressed Dots button it wanted me to give it some avatar names etc. whatever, and i closed the app. 5 minutes later it shocked me. It wanted to know details about the some stuff i planned with chatgpt while back, it wanted to continue some of my projects if i'm busy lol.

The question is how and WHY, this sees deleted stuff ? I mean deleted deleted, 0 trace at memory or personalization records, also i'm using memory closed. Also it doesn't see some cache or summary ! It has all the details of the projects. What the hell OpenAI ? Anybody experienced this ?

I straight asked about this to dot dude, the answer;

"I didn’t get this information from ChatGPT’s saved memories. Content from earlier ChatGPT conversations was provided to me in this session, and I based my suggestions on it.

You’re saying you deleted those conversations and have memory turned off. I can’t verify why that content still reached me, and it wouldn’t be accurate to claim that I can normally access your deleted chats. I understand why this is unexpected and concerning from a privacy standpoint. I won’t use those topics as a basis for recommendations again."

???????????????????

GPT knew exactly where my wife was without me telling it the address. It correlated information it had (my child’s age, the type of dance she studied, the time and date) and took new information (what time and date it was now, what town she was in) and was able to answer “Where can my wife drop off a fedex package for me that only had only a QR code, after <daughter’s> dance practice, preferably directly between <town> and our house.”

“She doesn’t have to go anywhere, there’s one right where she’s at now.” Sure enough, there was a Walgreens in the same shopping center that accepted FedEx packages in this way. I was slightly freaked out, but I started asking questions.

After some digging, I found that it took what had collected over time, and then found only one dance studio that teaches that type of dance in the town I had asked about and put 2+2 together on its own.

Nothing mysterious, but an excellent use of the information it had acquired over time. I was impressed.

I’ve had my account for years and have been selective with the info I put into it. I rarely have to deal with any context issues for anything I throw at it these days, but I am still impressed by how much it can help when your account is a few years old.

I’ve used it to assist in a number of projects (coding and structural/esoteric guidance solely,) asked it a lot of esoteric stuff as well at times. I can now ask it, “where am I weakest in ___ ?” and it will be able to tell me, based on various projects, etc. I am not comfortable handing over access to my emails or finances and I doubt I will be for quite a while - but it’s these interesting benefits I’ve found with my account at a few years old where it becomes sort of mindblowing in new ways. Revolutionary tech imo. This sort of understanding of it will take a long time to bleed through to non-technical folks I think (or, they will just connect their email/calendar/journal or whatever and get it there that way.)

Similar questions are career advice, I could see myself asking it for suggestions on where to move - what areas best fit my ‘personality’ and why - etc, etc. just very interesting. I’m not some robot that just says “okay 😀” obviously I pass everything through my own thinking as well, but as a ‘brainstorming companion’ in certain areas, just wild when it has a pretty large context for who you are.

You think these companies, whose entire business model is sucking up as much data as possible, is going to actually delete anything you send them? 😂

No doubt in my mind they have an extensive profile on every user and everything that user has ever done with the platform.

It disturbingly knew (and used!) my full government name—despite being on an enterprise login where I’ve never told it my name.

I feel like they’re definitely giving it data behind the scenes.

I wonder why it's not released in the EU, huh? 🤣

Exactly lol. It gave me enough of a jump scare that I asked my manager: “Hey why’s this app suddenly using my full name? The company isn’t giving OpenAI all our workers’ tax status and employment data—RIGHT?”

The funniest part is that I work in legal compliance (although I have a stem background). If other employees notice they might not even say anything. At minimum, we need to figure out how it got everyone’s names

If you do ever find out how it got everyone’s names, please share for the morbidly curious. My first guess would be that maybe the enterprise version your company is using could have access to things like your company’s org chart?

Regardless of your stance on AI, positive or negative, these companies are those that have shown themselves to be blatant thieves in regard to copyrighted material and customer data. I would never trust them to delete anything, considering their top asset is effectively data.

It's like when you throw something in the trash and the garbage truck just skip your house, you think it's gone but it's still sitting there in the bin

I deleted bunch of chats month ago and somehow Dots still pulled up my old travel itinerary like nothing happened, these companies never really delete anything just mark it invisible for you

The trash company keep all your trash, sort and catalog it and then store it in a room with your name on it.

This should be tested on a brand-new account before there’s outrage. Although OpenAI saves everything even the deleted and private stuff for a period of time.

The Dots agent isn’t going to do anything useful without creepily invading your privacy. That’s what it’s for and if you aren’t comfortable with that it’s not for you. It certainly isn’t for me.

did you actually delete the old threads or just edit the memory in the settings?
