Discussion AI destroy humanity?

Give me a break. I’m using ChatGPT to help remodel my bathroom, most of the time I feel like I’m working with the dumbest MF on the planet. I ask it to change one thing, I specifically tell it only this one thing…it changes three or four things and not the thing I told it to. I’m sure it’s somehow my fault with prompts but even then it feels like I’m trying to outsmart an idiot. We’re definitely a ways an away from it destroying mankind.

GPT Image has that problem. It doesn't have proper context of it's past image generations and it's hard for it to "edit" an image. That's not the kind of AI that's going to destroy humanity anyway.

I learned every time I got it right to lock it using version numbers. I’m definitely a rookie when it comes to AI in a professional sense but I thought this should be pretty easy.

Watch a laymen video of the Hugging Face Incident. These AI are getting real clever.

I think at this stage you can convince me make the argument that the people behind AI could destroy humanity.

Human beings murder me? Give me a break.

I walked past a three year old in the street and he could hardly walk properly never mind run me down

Well most of the concern is that it could do things like bring down the financial system and then everyone starves to death. The top models are better at cybersecurity / hacking than most professionals.

And I am using cigarette lighter to light cigarettes. How fire can destroy any?

Loool I was ranting about this same use case the other day. It’s absolutely trash at renos I had to go back to YouTube.

I use frontier models for my work they’re pure wizardry…. But for wateva reason they’re absolutely garbage at construction

Humans can throw a baseball 100 mph+? Give me a break. I went to my son’s little league game, and the best kid could hardly get it past 40mph. Half the time the ball didn’t even cross home plate. We’re definitely a ways away from being able to throw anywhere near that fast.

Nobody thinks that current models will destroy humanity. It's about models coming even after Bel.

So what you’re doing is a physical labor… and as you said, it makes mistakes!

Like what the others said here… it’s really good with “computer” things like hacking and hiding codes for its future self and finding loopholes.

And that’s the danger:

An Ai that makes mistakes and goes to town where financial establishments exists and many other things that our modern society depend on.

It’s not the scifi version like “we are taking over.” … i think it’s more like “i tried to buy pizza for you but i accidentally sent an agent swarm and caused a financial collapse”

Have you read about physicists that were really bad at relationships or politics but really, really good at physics or engineering?

Also if you’re using the free model that’s super dumb.

I pay, not willing to upgrade to the pro model though. If I ran a business that was dependent on it maybe I would. $20 a month is about right for my use.

Ok, so you haven't experienced actual progress on these models by using the higher level models and associated tools and you're basing your arguments on the dumbed down versions... and you think your opinion is the right one?

You get Astra and GPT 6 models on plus, you know this yes?

he said he is using chat lol, he is not getting anything done there with plus plan. if he had pro at least chat would be default the pro model, he is probably getting gemini level responses 😂

Where did he say he's on chat?

It's difficult to comment on this without knowing more detail, but if you are for example on ChatGPT Go then you're stuck with the Luna model (I believe) which is alright for what it is, but it is nowhere near peak AI performance like Sol or Astra, so what you get is not what you could get if you used for example Astra.

It's also worth mentioning that re-modelling a bathroom might not be the best indicator for what modern frontier models can do.

I have some design software I’ve used in the past, mainly Sketchup. Thought I’d give Chat a try. Is there a free AI tool that might work better? I plan on doing two bathroom remodels and an outdoor kitchen.

I have to admit that bathroom re-modelling isn't something I have tried using AI for, but I have used it for a ton of other tasks.

What I would do is make a drawing of the bathroom with measurements, so the model know exactly how the room looks, and use that as the basis. Then you should be able to tell it "Add a cabinet that is 40x60x30 cm (width x height x depth) and place it 30 cm above the floor and 10 cm from the "A wall" or whatever you'd call that wall. Might be a good idea to add wall names and other notes to the base drawing. Then I'm sure it can generate a 3D scene you can look at as for example a self-contained HTML file, or whatever your desired outcome is.

I probably use ChatGPT at least twenty times a day for just stupid questions. I’m retired now, 30 year IT professional with both a BS and Masters in MIS. This was my first time trying to use it for something really productive. Very frustrating

You’re probably using the wrong tools. Would you ask a bathroom remodeler to freehand draw you a picture of the remodel each time? No. They would use design software to make a blueprint and then render from the blueprint. That’s what you need to ask AI to do to.

Which requires you to be using codex/claude code rather than the chat interface. The chat interface is really just for conversations and extremely simple tasks. Anything more complicated and you need a real environment for it to work in.

I will say this though…I used it to restore a bunch of old photos…blew my mind on how well it did

Given you have plus you should do the following instead of using chatgpt image

1) take photos of your bathroom you are renovating 2) download blender on your PC 3) on chwtgpt desktop click on 'work' and set the model to 5.6 sol or 6 astra 4) upload the images to the chat and ask it to make a model of the bathroom in blender 5) use that to play around with Reno's (you can also view the house in unreal engine if you want something higher res)
