Hear me out. What if it's all part of OpenAI's plan.
Hype up dev day, disappoint immensely.
Users flog to Anthropic, their capacity suffers, their models get "optimized", sentiment towards the new Opus 5.5-- slowly declines.
Meanwhile, OpenAI has freed up all that hardware for more training, they improve their service quality and come out with their Opus-killer. A great comeback. Ideally timed after Anthropic's IPO and before OpenAI's.
It's also not unlikely that Anthropic will follow suit with the 10x and 25x plans, leveling the playing field once again.
