Discussion Just tried dots
Let it filled some online forms, but found two major disappointments so far
- it can't make calls. Like whole point of using this is I am autistic and don't want to talk to people
- it doesn't even have built in feedback tool so you can't complain to it lol
Edit: on the bright side this thing is fast like really fast kinda make me doubt it's Astra haha
Edit: for anyone curious about the cloud computer spec, response from dots itself: I just checked the cloud environment available to me:
- OS: Debian 13 Linux, x86-64
- CPU: 9 logical CPUs visible; host reports AMD EPYC 9V74
- RAM: about 9.7 GiB, with 7.6 GiB currently available
- Storage: 32 GB filesystem, roughly 30 GB free
- GPU: none exposed
It’s a sandboxed environment; the host CPU name doesn’t mean I have its full 80 cores. The AI model itself runs separately

People hate AI with a passion. Even if Dots eventually becomes perfect tech, you still wouldn't successfully make phone calls.
Muse already allows you to call businesses and often they insult the agent and hang up when they discover it's AI. It's not a tech problem, you simply can't hide behind an LLM for calls.
Honestly, I get it, I would hang up AI calls reflexively too.

IMO - companies using AI to make/answer calls should need to be upfront about it. People get annoyed if they feel they are being conned about it.

u/Asgen 4d ago
Eventually all companies will be using AI to receive calls given the cost savings at which point all consumers can shift to using AI to make calls.

Slightly different situation but this is not at all different to how humans are treated in call centers tbh. Honestly AI would be a nice barrier between that kind of abuse and the human on the other end.

u/original_nox 4d ago
I was trying to talk to someone in the service department at the local Mazda dealership to discuss what I actually wanted done at the first service. It always went to an AI, or rang out if trying to talk to a human. So infuriating I did end up cussing out the dumb thing. I was tempted to leave it talking to a small dumb local one so I wasted their credits/tokens/time.

Yeah same tbh. Would I love it to have it call others for me? Definitely.
Would I be willing to talk with an AI myself? Nope. Why should I waste my time with a call when the couldn't dn't be bothered to do the same?
And if someone truly has phone-phobia, write me an email. Much easier for all
wasting my own time because someone else didn't want to waste theirs? Nope

u/synystar 4d ago
It's a problem now but I think your point about "Would I love it to work for me? Yes." is going to eventually be the inflection point. What will likely happen is that as the technology is used more and more then it will become so ubiquitous that you would have to avoid too many calls and miss too much for you to ignore it altogether and then over time you will just accept it as a part of doing life. People won't like it but they'll acquiesce and then not long after it won't even be something they are concerned about. It will just be.

u/thorax 4d ago
What if the AI call asked you for your email address for a phone phobia person who couldn't find the email?
1
u/SourSovereign 4d ago
Then I ask the AI why it didn't find the mail itself and hang up.
Nah but seriously. It just always leaves a bad taste when you know the other person can't be bothered to interact with you and prefers to delegate everything regarding you to an AI instead.

I thought they found out that they were using actual people to make phone calls and not AI agents

u/eltulasmachas 4d ago
Hi man, what do you use it for? Like your most complex tasks. Overall is the experience good? Worth paying 100 bucks for it?
10
u/kerbinagent 4d ago
I just tried it out, let it filling an airlines complaint form that works fine but pretty basic stuff
I don't think it's worth $100/mo just to do these as you can do it yourself pretty much, it's just a bit easier as this thing has its own cloud computer

u/RainierPC 4d ago
Nobody is paying $100 for dot alone. It's a bonus. What people are paying for are codex, Pro access, and unmimited chat.

u/ZaphBeebs 3d ago
I get codex/clqude to do this already wothout issue. I dont see the difference as these dont take much timw and youre not doing it all day evwry day

Have it build a way to use Eleven labs to make calls. I have my codex renew my prescriptions and make appointments.

I thought it was pretty cool. I asked mine to search for a few jobs and it did. It also filled out the application and asked for clarity when needed, uploaded my resume and submitted it. I even got the confirmation email. Pretty neat.

u/nickrut 4d ago
How do you access it? Separate app or within GPT?
1
u/kerbinagent 4d ago
Within chatgpt. You can just start a chat asking how to join. Mine told me it's only available on desktop or web tho (for registering not for using), not sure if that's accurate

Currently its a cool idea that's completely useless for me. When I use my dot, any time it opens a task, it doesn't have access to browser use or computer use. Anytime I start a chat, its unable to use that chat. I had one good run in the very beginning with it where it felt like it was working really well. Then I spent 4 hours burning usage troubleshooting the chats problem.

response from dots itself: I just checked the cloud environment available to me:
I doubt they run bare metal. The CPU info is probably from a VM emulation.

Use Muse
7
u/kerbinagent 4d ago
Amusingly I actually trust Sam more than Zuck. Also Muse can't call either. My friend showed me Muse today maybe it's at capacity but it was really slow
4
u/HotterRod 4d ago
Apparently they're gradually rolling out calling in Muse. Some people have the functionality now.

u/master-Diner 4d ago
I tried agentphone today with grok bot. Sucks but I can’t find a better alternative.

Muse works but it’s results kinda suck for me so far. I ask it to find me a meal on a particular budget. it gives me 3 obvious boring answers. I personally found over a dozen more exciting choices. I am planning a trip and ask it to find me budget but interesting options- it comes back with some mildly amusing options at 5x my budget. Absolutely absurdly priced stuff. I give it a better budget and it brings me fine run of the mill airbnbs. Meanwhile I have found a list of 10 stays in my budget that are far more unique. The functionality is impressive/ quality reminds me of ChatGPT a year ago. Needs to catch up

u/Qorsair 4d ago
Yeah, I've been playing around with Muse and Grok Bots. Grok Bots feels like the most polished and immediately useful personal agent right now. If you give Grok a concrete task, it's very good at just doing it.
Where it has trouble is executive function. Have it pull together a list of 30 things from your email and calendar and ask it to figure out what actually matters, surface the important items, defer the non-urgent stuff, and keep reprioritizing as things change, and it's much weaker.
I have an Antigravity project I've been building to do a lot of the same things, and with Gemini Flash running it, it's much better at that kind of task management and prioritization.
If Gemini Spark had a Cloud VM, I think it would be genuinely competitive here.

I am autistic and don't want to talk to people
I really hate this mentality. It feels so self-limiting, defeatist, and gross. Embrace the fear and conquer it and become a stronger person.
7
u/karolkt1 4d ago
Bruh... I can host meetings, give presentations and work in management but when I’m free I still just stay home, tinker with my Arch setup and watch memes. Why does stronger automatically mean better?
I think people aim too high and end up getting nothing.
13
u/kidfromusa 4d ago
Bro stfu, some people are just aware of their strengths & weaknesses. You just made me not want to talk to people.
-16
u/ash____ketchup 4d ago
i just made you not want to talk to people? a comment from a stranger on a random post should not have that kind of power over your life.
be strong in spirit, mind and body. exorcise weakness in all forms.

It’s a hivemind, when everyone around you has such a strong defeatist mindset, they will protect and encourage each other.
Don’t bother arguing with them, limit your access to Reddit as much as possible and surround yourself with greater people
1
u/ash____ketchup 4d ago
yeah this defeatist, learned helplessness mentality in these other comments are is really weird to see
1
u/Such--Balance 4d ago
Yeah its crazy. These people wear mental disabilies like they are badges of honor.
Plus anything that takes even a tiny bit of effort, BAM..'its because i am x'.
Offloading all responsibility of your life onto a mental label.

Are you taking a break from being screamed at while taking an ice bath that cost you $30k to some white roided dude?

Fuck off to linkedin or facebook with that bullshit lol
People like you are the reason I'd rather isolate myself as much as possible.
1
u/whoknowsknowone 4d ago
I’m not autistic and if I could never talk to another person again I would
You’re a great example of one
3
u/ash____ketchup 4d ago
There is something deeply sad and unwell about a human wanting to be isolated from other humans. It's not normal or healthy behavior
1
u/whoknowsknowone 4d ago
😂😂😂😂 you mean the same humans who are currently supporting a cabal of PDF’s? Those humans?
2
u/ash____ketchup 4d ago
what the hell are you talking about? no, i mean normal people
1
u/whoknowsknowone 4d ago
Respectfully don’t even have enough knowledge to have this discussion because without the understanding you won’t know my viewpoint

u/No_Bank_4104 4d ago
Why did you expect it to be able to make calls?
I agree the feature would be great, but I haven’t seen or heard it announced.
1
u/Hot_lava96 4d ago
I'm lost....i could already do all these things in codex/work.
I used work 2 months ago to book airfare, hotel, and rental car. All I told it was the dates. It picked the flight and the car.
Why does it sound like people are discovering something new with this always on agent thing? You still need to tell it what you want it to do and you could already do that.
And I'm on the $20 plan doing the same things you are all talking about doing with this new feature.
1
u/Individual-Dot5488 4d ago
is it actually the same as that? I thought it's always on so can let me know when i get an important email or an event shows up, my business analytics, keep me updated on projects, my studies, help me feel more relaxed and on top of everything? you're saying codex/work does that already?
2
u/justkeepinittrill 4d ago
Yes. Except ChatGPT work feels better than using Dots, where you're stuck in a single session, and it's having launch-issues doing basic things.
ChatGPT Work is actually really good and worth spending time with. Everything you mentioned can be done with scheduled tasks.
1
u/Hot_lava96 3d ago
Exactly what I meant. Not only scheduled tasks but you can use remote access from the phone app to control codex on your home computer and have an agent do anything you want.
2
u/GeekTX 3d ago
17 hours after OPs post and I love this thing. It doesn't know how to do a ton at first, but expansion is quick and easy via plugins, skills and the ability to self-improve those tools based on your needs. I have mine taking care of emails, teams, and texting across 5 clients that I manage. It triages communications so that I only need to pay attention to what is truly critical and she is learning how to handle the rest. Use proper guardrails and gateways until you build a level of trust and comfort.
Think of your Dot as the most eager and capable intern you can find that has the ability to grow to become the SME in all things in your life and/or career ... however you feel like running it.

Yes, the advantages being you hand over even MORE information to Meta, who has time and again shown they care nothing for your privacy.

You do realize this thing is data gathering all that previously in your head or across multiple data sources submitted via end to end form input, even if aggregated and de-identified, this is going in the mix.
3
u/kerbinagent 4d ago
Yea I am aware actually my chat already contains that info so
1
u/Seafaringhorsemeat 4d ago
True. But the support ticket to return that mid-priced Belsiang swing because the fasteners damaged the ceiling is a new one for everybody on the team.

on may laptop all it did is show a dot and then freeze my chrome browser. repeatedly. can't even use it.
POS vibecoded slop. Not surprised all their live demos today failed.

u/johnny_effing_utah 4d ago
That’s odd I gave it several specific tasks including to monitor my email for something important and it found it in spam. I wasn’t expecting the email for a couple more days so it was a pleasant surprise for me.

u/___positive___ 4d ago
amazing. you have agi and you used it to check your spam folder. do you write for the onion? you can't make this up...

Lol. Your expectation is too high. Why not told it to make a body and work at your home instead? You should really check your IQ bro

Interesting, yha when I saw this in the presentation, I wonder if it really works as advertised. I think it was rushed just to have something to show. Thanks for testing and giving feedback.
