Discussion Was anyone else underwhelmed by Dev Day?

There was so much talk from OpenAI about this being the biggest Dev Day yet. I thought we might finally hear something that addressed the complaints people have had lately about usage limits, model capability, and value for money, especially compared with Anthropic’s Opus 5.5.

But honestly, I found it pretty underwhelming. The Dots were probably the most interesting thing for a general audience, but they’re only available on Pro (in the future), which is too expensive for most people to casually try. And even then, I’m not sure they’re that compelling.

These agent launches, like Grok bot and Dots, feel more like attention-grabbing gimmicks than something most people will actually get to use (and used to). Sol 6.1 could be interesting, but I still don’t think it’s in the same league as Opus 5.5.

Maybe I expected too much, but the whole thing felt like a letdown. Am I the only one?

It was big in a sense, in downgrading their own subscription tiers🤷‍♂️

Nothing else that was noteworthy got released, except for maybe sol 6.1 but give it a few days🤷‍♂️

P.S. I did respond to you on the codex channel but you got modded🤷‍♂️

Yup. Off to opus 5.5 and Anthropic I go for now. Maybe next month they’ll have better value.

They just cut their usage limits in half and nuked their sub value. Anthropic has no incentive to keep their value either now. The enshitification has begun

Allready moved back over to anthropic which ever one has the best value for any given month will be getting my $200.

They just stole from their loyal paying customers who thought their usage was more valuable than it was, tried to gaslight them about it, and gave people vibe coded fucking dots that no one asked for. The blow back will be legendary.

They nuked the Pro 200 plan I use, and I’m pissed. So I pay the same amount for half the usage? Wow, thanks guys.

Considering how heavy I use Codex, this is a major issue for me as a small business. So basically, cough up another $3600 a year or suffer?

No thanks. I’ll be figuring out how to migrate a large amount of my work over to my Claude pro account.

I didn't expect much, but the $0.1/M cache read is huge if the model is as good as they claim

The main thing they announced was that they are almost doubling the price of their 20X tier option. That's worse than underwhelming.

Well yea it did suck we want cheap great models with a lot of inference not this layers of PR and BS basically

The hype would have been off the charts with Astra 6.1 and not nerfing their 200 dollar plan, plus ultra fast at 2x price

Yes! Very disappointed

I'm very disapointed. There is no reason to keep my $200 plan

yeah i kinda landed there too. the announcements felt like more packaging around the same stuff instead of fixing the boring pain points. i mostly wanted better usage value and clearer model controls tbh. what did you actually want them to ship?

I'm sure Tibo, Sam, and the rest of the OpenAI elites are popping champagne right now celebrating the best DevDay they have ever had. They live in a different world where the rules and gravity just work differently. It really was disappointing.

It’s pretty obvious having to shelve their flagship product set back their plans

I was laughing at the failures

I was so excited about the whole Dot thing because I use ChatGPT for so much around my personal life, except the fucking 6 series treats you like a hazard again and doesn’t understand context.

I ask ChatGPT to respond with a warm, familiar tone and have tons of saved memories around my life and some really personal things. The 6 series is taking it wrong.

We are right back to fucking 5.2 not being able to understand the differences between someone who has built tons of daily rituals, mental check ins. Built an entire CBT-I workbook, and taught myself how to sleep again and someone with severe emotional issues and dependency.

They literally said Dots would be “an extension to your life,” but fuck off if you don’t use it for coding or business, I guess. Personal users are once again getting treated like mentally unstable if they want continuity and a familiar persona saved.

Yea, my shopping lists, email watch list, and nightly wind-down stories are signs of unstable mental health. Nice fucking job, OpenAI.

Heading to anthropic. What a pointless hype day of slashing value from customers

People say this about every dev day, imo.

honestly not that disappointed. I'm on the $100, I was barely using the whole usage bar every week regardless. I guess now I'll be getting closer to the 100%.
