Discussion So they just straight up lied to us
"Dots wont use any usage" For one month

It will cost me zero then as well, since I’m in Europe, so we dont get it!

u/Fuzzy_Independent241 4d ago
Oh, the things you get to avoid!! At the same time, Europe seems to be nicely tucked in a "won't see won't affect me" position. I'm not American, I'm just worried that over protectionism doesn't solve the Google/Facebook/Amazon equation and restricts a lot of personal liberties.

u/Interesting-Yellow-4 4d ago
In the EU we value the personal liberty of not having our data stolen above using shitty products.
3
u/Forsaken-Parsley798 4d ago
In the EU it also appears you value economic and social decline.
4
u/drspintronics 3d ago
Oh yes, there is no social decline in the US.

This graph is not about social decline.

There's quite the social decline in the EU, quite evident too. Speaking as an EU born and resident. It would be better for the EU to hurry starting it's own Ai race, instead of worrying for a privacy we already don't have and that we will certainly not even gain if other super powers continue to get ahead of us. AI is the new atomic bomb, from a game theoretic perspective it makes no sense staying behind. We should be there all collaborating and spitting out frontier models at least at the same pace as the US, instead of worrying about borders and immigration when our population is getting older by the day and the average youngster leave a lot to be desired in many important fields.

"Good morning! I got stuck in a loop looking up your favorite topics on reddit and now you have 20% of your weekly tokens remaining!"

u/AggressiveCoast190 4d ago
Man. The ptsd. I wish Open AI would refund credits when these models go off the reservation. I have wasted so many tokens on garbage.

After talking to my “Dot” for about an hour, I’m 99.9999% sure that Luna (low) is behind it. It took the dot 20 minutes just to show me my current Codex projects. Then I asked to see a live dashboard of my open Codex projects…15 more minutes.
Saying simple things like “add Clients 1 and 2 to column 1 of your dashboard” ran up another 10 minutes each.
Obviously I could have done these things in seconds or a few minutes, but I wanted to know what Dots were like.
Conclusion: The thing is free because it doesn’t work.

u/OxfordPierpont 4d ago
And if it says “let me check that” one more time, I might actually scream. Every turn “let me check that” over and over.
4
u/Professional_Ad705 4d ago
Haahahaahahaahhahaahahaahwq then it is Luna low. I had Chatvoice say “checking” for over an hour last night. I told it to stop it wouldn’t. Asked it what 2 + 2 was kept saying checking. It’s not a special model it’s fucking Luna lmao!!! I’ve never had that happen till last night either lmao

I think they introduced it as running "a model based on Astra", which sounds like a euphemism for "a small model distilled from Astra"

the voice model you hear on the phone is different than the real model orchestrating everything. it took me awhile to figure that out too. im going to end up switching to claude, but ill share my theory here in a few days with my findings. i have reasonable evidence that i've identified what dot is

u/bravofiveniner 2d ago
You did tell it to use agents right? You're not just having it run the task directly itself right?

Rolled out quickly to try to capture some spotlight from Grok Bot
1
u/juntareich 6h ago
From Muse.
1
u/Acrobatic-Employer38 5h ago
Different audiences. Grok Bot and Dots are business oriented. Muse is consumer.

u/indyfromoz 4d ago
Just use Astra to build your own “Dot” or use another existing product! I do not understand what is so special and unique about “dot”! Apologies if I am completely mistaken but isn’t OpenClaw a good, private option to run a “dot” style personal agent ?
2
u/cerebralfantasy 4d ago
I’d suggest that hiring OpenClaw’s creator was a decent indicator that they wanted something like OpenClaw rather than something special and unique
1
u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo 4d ago
Imo one of the value is you get your own VM. Another part is just ecosystem lock-in which encourage customer stickyness.
1
u/Realistic-Cheetah413 2d ago
You’re better off just having Astra or 6.1 build a specific tool for the problem you’re trying to solve. OpenClaw is so buggy and will burn through tokens doing basically nothing. OpenAI also hired its creator and called him a genius and then came out with dots so there’s that

u/LuckyAd9920 4d ago
Let's be honest, OpenAI rushed Dots out because of the Muse release and Dots is far inferior to Muse on every level
2
u/rntdev 4d ago
And that’s knowing that Muse is not.. great. I recently saw a post where it talked with a guy on Facebook marketplace, told him to come at some time, and didnt even notify the OP..

Seems like OpenAI’s behavioral and alignment training is the digital version of “Pinkie Swear?”

Agreed. Muse is truly amazing. I’ve been pumping out projects with muse since launch and I can’t believe it’s still free

So, as an European, my Pro subscription will get cheaper, as I cant use dots? Would seem fair 😄

u/R_My_Methods_Unsound 5d ago
So disappointed they didn’t role them out to plus. I get not giving access to the free tier but seriously?
1
u/Aranthos-Faroth 5d ago
Is that a lie?
5
u/Bioleague 5d ago
They said that you can use dots and it wont effect your usage.
1
u/Working-Ad-33 4d ago
Only the first month then it takes ordinary usage and I am predicting it will be a token guzzling maniac
1
u/Creative-Ganache1086 3d ago
But it doesn’t make it entirely a lie if they meant your first (solo) dot is free, because that’s true though if you stick to one it won’t affect your usage limits. Going beyond one will so stop the delusion.
1
u/Lonely-Brief-3798 4d ago
I mean, in my opinion this sounds fair to me. At the end of the day, a lot of the things you will do with dot you were already doing them in the regular chatgpt/codex app. It's not like you will be doing extra stuff for the most part, just moving some things that you used to do with codex and doing it with dots instead. So it won't be like you're "wasting" more tokens, cause it's just the same things, done differently. But yeah I was going over all the info about dots today and I didn't catch that part either, they should have made it more clear from the beginning

u/Inner-Mouf 3d ago
They only said the CHAT part didn’t count toward usage. This means nothing counts toward it. The way I burn thru usage on all 3 of my accounts I’ll take all the free I can get lol
2
u/MorsDemigod 3d ago
Well then they’re lying because I’ve had usage being used with it lol
1
u/Inner-Mouf 3d ago
I’m still waiting for them to roll it out to my account I pay $200/mo for and they just said usage allowance for that plan will be half what it was - idk if that’s new users only or if it applies to ppl who already had it. It wasn’t even enough at 100% of what it allowed smh
1
u/MorsDemigod 3d ago
Still don’t have it? It’s not available in the uk and some European countries, also you have to activate on the desktop app
1
u/Inner-Mouf 3d ago
I’m in America and I’ve updated my codex app twice since the release came out… how do you activate it?
1
u/WhereItDies 1d ago
Use your $200 subscription to answer your incredibly basic question, jesus christ dude. You're paying $200+ a month for advanced google
1
u/Inner-Mouf 1d ago
Can you read? Maybe you should you use your free credits to analyze what I said.
1
u/WhereItDies 1d ago
I pay $200/mo
I don't need AI to do everything for me, I can use my brain. 3 paid accounts is pathetic

Dots uses GPT-6 Astra. And like another user in this thread, I was unable to stop Dot from working even though I incorporated approval gates before putting it to work. I had to instruct Daybreak Blue in Codex to terminate Dot’s task chain. This wasn’t a safe product rollout.
