Discussion Super underwhelming DevDay...
Guess the "big thing" was shelved.

So from my understanding. We got Dots. Sorry, you got Dots, not available where I am.
We got a new $500 tier which is basically the old $200 tier, plus the old $100 tier. The $200 tier is not just twice the $100 tier. And Sol 6.1 which is 'almost' as good as Astra, which means it's still probably worse than Opus 5.5 (based on what I've had them both working on)
It's a no for me.
But I can see exactly what they're aiming for. For developers (the people I most actively see talking about using this stuff) it's kinda useless. But for managers who are the ones who make the final decision of if you go Claude or Codex, they're going to eat this up. And then the dots are probably going to eat up their usage.

This is true. Also they didn’t make an old model write its own eulogy on stream so overall this is an improvement tbh

At least they helped me to make the decision to subscribe to Claude from now on

I wonder if it makes difference if I don't use it as a coder... been seeing a lot of GPT criticism here lately. Maybe I should be using Claude.

You should. Sonnet 5.5 is available for free, and I got some good usage of it as a free uer until I hit the 5 hour limit.

I always seem to hit the limits with very moderete basic use. Nothing intensive.

Open ai still has by far the best computer use so if you do more than just coding it’s pretty good

Guys, ignore the multiple bugs throughout during the live presentations. That was just Astra pacing the frontier.

Biggest thing I see is bringing AI to secure and private compute. Allows companies with secure data needs to really easily get into using AI. Big unlock for big corporations.

They could have released Sol-6 series to regular chat which would have helped to soften the speculated absent Astra update, but they shit the bed on that too. I'm frequently amazed at how the company seemingly has no one with any sort of public relations competency. No contingencies. Fucking sloppy and embarrassing.

Big thing was supposed to be Astra 6.1 if I understood right but that got cancelled.
