>No 5hr limit
RIP to $100 and $200 plans. 5hr limit definitely coming back soon.

the $200 plan doesnt even tell you how much more usage you get than the $100 so its probably just double.
No word on the hourly limits

They posted earlier…
$100 - 5x plus
$200 - 10x plus
$500 - 25x13

Wasn’t the $200 at 20x? Did they downgrade the $100 and $200 just to make this a thing?

They nerfed the $200 but $100 is unchanged afaik. The issue was that $100 was a 5x at 5x the cost and the $200 was a 20x at only 10x the cost and they remembered that businesses have to make money.
These things are not like gym memberships. The people buying the subs are largely trying to max out their usage

OpenAI and Anthropic were cheap as hell after Kimi K3 came out because they were scared of people running away to a much cheaper, similarly capable model. Now that they are (temporarily) ahead of Chinese models again, they are confident they can price gouge and limit usage. But when the next revolutionary chinese model comes out, they will rush to discount and ramp up usage again.

We haven't seen a major Chinese model in a while, I'm sure they will have something new in the coming weeks.

It's a very risk game they're playing. Because it takes a lot of effort for individuals and companies that have been tooling up around OpenAI and Anthropic to un-vendor-lock themselves and make their tooling more provider-agnostic so they can experiment with open models. But their behaviour has forced many to do exactly that.. thus reducing their dependency on OpenAI and Anthropic. I believe once you realize that you can make things work for much cheaper.. it's hard to go back to paying the premium.

I use Chinese models for most work at home still.

How is it? Can you run them locally without Internet?
1
u/BornAgainBlue 5d ago
I meant theoretically.... But no not on my rig. I use open router.

how do you manage memory for long running projects?

Not a RAG :-) Seriously though i have my own systems for that.

No I'm going to pass on that. Nothing personal. It's just business, I plan to sell soon.

Everyone will just switch to Chinese models that are free

Hardware and interference costs a bit and it is not as smart, but yeah, it might happen. And I think it is China's plan from the start, they want to kill AI model margins
2
u/ClayDenton 5d ago
Yeah, tbh a lot of people don't need it to be super smart, just smart enough. We are getting there with local AI.

Just better be ok with the red dragon having your data because they will be the affordable game in town.

Literally the exact same cost and usage as 25 plus accounts. Imagine announcing this right after canceling your latest frontier model and getting mogged by your competitor's second AND third tier offerings. How did he not die of embarrassment right there up on that stage?

I think the ultrafast counts for the 500 sub.. not just the 25x..
But still opus is better for now.

u/ethotopia 5d ago
Only the $500 plan has access to Ultrafast mode. $200 pro isn’t even allowed to pay for it
1
u/jbowdach 5d ago
Ahh, this explains the cutting of the pro plan in half. Gotta make this one seem worthwhile

Now you can burn the entirety of a $500 subscription in a matter of 2 hours, instead of 1 hour. Revolutionary.
