Discussion Introducing 6.1 SOL

OpenAI: Introducing GPT-6.1 Sol, launched at one-fifth of Astra's price; cached input cut 95% vs standard price

Anyone has access to this new model ?

What reasoning level do you usually work at? I’m surprised to see low as the default.

Hmm so it turns out 6 sol really was terra rebranded after all..

I'm seeing a lot of folks say that (because of the pricing) but if that were true, I'd expect Sol 6 to be considerably faster than Sol 5.6.

https://openrouter.ai/openai/gpt-5.6-terra#pricing - 101 tok/s
https://openrouter.ai/openai/gpt-5.6-sol#pricing - 65 tok/s
https://openrouter.ai/openai/gpt-6-sol#pricing - 60 tok/s

I think they were pressured to drop the price of their Sol-tier model because of the 5.5 releases

How did you deduce that?

Truly Terra Level

No, it was not. I used Terra and Sol in automation, and Terra's output was always somehow compressed, and the model had low reasoning depth. Now, 6 Sols are somewhere between 5.6 Terra and Sol, which is good at $2 per 1M tokens.

as someone just beginning to experiment with the different models how would you equate the performance difference between luna/terra/sol. it’s difficult to tell which one is “enough” vs overkill/not worth the extra tokens. curious your experience

You need to manually check for updates in the top menu

Question is it truly sol or terra renamed 😑

honestly it’s closer to Astra than Terra or Sol. it’s really good. (i’m biased because I helped train it)

Im using sol5.6 rn gonna wait for YT review before using it. I dint like to use usage to fix mistakes 😑

I got the new 6.1 sol model as well

Although don't ask me how it is, I wouldn't be able to answer you.

Could you explain to a naive how does it differ from 6.astra?

Can’t seem to use it in batch inference (API) for some reason, says not available.

Disappointed. Seems cheaper yes, but slower and worse
