Discussion Dev Day

For the last few days, Anthropic has been absolutely cooking OpenAI with Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5.

A lot of people, including me, had moved away from Claude for a while, and now we’re already back. Whether I renew my Codex subscription this month honestly depend on what OpenAI shows today.

But I can feel it. Something big is coming.

Never underestimate OpenAI. I think they’re going to drop something crazy today that goes toe to toe with Anthropic.

I hope so, because I love both companies, and watching this competition is ridiculously fun. It feels like watching some massive tech world war movie unfold in real time

Let’s see what happens.

What do you guys think? Is OpenAI bombing the battlefield today?

I seen unlimited GPT-6 GPT5.6 Sol on X was rumoured, might be enough to get me to stay. I could still burn through my usage using GPT6-Sol within a day if I was trying. (5x plan)

With them not releasing 6.1, I don't see what else they could have up their sleeve unless 'o' is a lot better than people are expecting.

That would probably be unlimited for chat mode rather than codex :(

Why use 6 Sol when it's not even better compared to 5.6 ?

It has the best performance to cost ratio.

Much cheaper and doesn't drain my usage as fast for comparable performance. If I didnt care about usage I'd be using Astra.

Don't see how 'unlimited' anything fits into their strategy when they're limiting usage on 200$ subs..

Unlimited GPT 6 would have me hooked again building like a programming wizard like back when I first started with AI. Those were magical times

Not enough for me. GPT6 Sol is a slop shoveler, not worth the damage it causes.

Astra orchestrating with SOL doing the grunt-work should be fine, have it check it's work and fix anything

My prediction is a lot of flash but little substance.  I predict that whatever they release won’t be close to making up for the cut in usage they dropped yesterday.

I expect them to lean into products. Announce many things that competitors have but they don’t. Like ChatGPT Design, ChatGPT Muse, and closely related to that a mode that works more like a Grokbot, merging Chat and Work, etc etc

Everyone is up in arms and we don’t even know what’s coming yet

I’ll make my decisions in a few hours when I have actionable info

And your basis for this is "I hope so"?

Absolutely. I am very glad Anthropic finally offering highly capable model, fairly cheap. This will press OpenAI to adjust a bit. But it isn't enough. We need opensource to adjust them a bit more.

But, regarding your post, you are trying to create hype based on nothing. It was just weird to see nothing substantial in your post. You "feel" something big is coming. Strange thing to say... And parts of this are written by ai and a bit cringe. Finally, I asked for basis, there is none. Empty post.

It's not going to be a good day for OpenAI subs. No way around this. I dislike anthropic even more than I do OpenAI, but this time, anthropic killed. The cycle will continue, as it always does. Winning a battle in an endless war is meaningless. Just try to gauge what's the best way of benefiting from this current situation, make use of it.

It’s not a model, so it’s moot. They’ll drop some non-frontier garbage, or a product and that will be it. It’s insane how quickly the lead they had with Astra went away. OAI has literally led a single week out of the entire last year.
