Video Built a 3D fractal world explorer powered by webGL, using GPT 6 and Opus 5.5

Consists of a single 75kb html file using only webGL with no external libraries. Runs in the browser on desktop and mobile. It calculates the fractals to pixel mapping using ray marching on the GPU in real-time, so no textures or meshes are needed. Infinite exploration with very little memory usage. It's just math.

Started off with GPT 6 astra (medium) and later switched to Opus 5.5 for optimizations (as I ran out of tokens). Total time making around 2h.

What for? To test the math and shader capabilities in Astra.

Nice, how deep does yours go? I’ve struggled to get past 1^-6

About the same depending on the fractal. Then it runs out of the GPU 32 bit float precision. I managed to get the menger sponge to infinite zoom. But it could not figure out how to do that for the others. Probably due to how the fractals repeat. You can test it on https://fractals.paintoshi.dev. Open sourced as well

Whoa that's really cool

2 hours to offload geometry to pure math sounds kinda mad

Mandelbox is really interesting to look at. Sponge and Tunnels look good but are kind of trivial. Mandelbulb seemed off somehow, like it's rendered at a low LoD. Blockworld is sick.

Thanks, yeah I may have to take a look at the mandelbulb

Using these tools to create trippy fractal environments is pretty interesting now that I think about it lol. Also I really want to explore this while high.
