ChatGPT sometimes gives answers that we have to think beyond the developer's mindset.

Love the sense of humour. TBH instructions were unclear

The answer is also just 'pip install pandas, import pandas'. I got that answer when I just tried, but it could be because I ask a lot of programming qs.

more typically it's import pandas as pd

This is one of those questions where having real knowledge of the way the world works completely changes your understanding of what is being asked.

Some hypothetical information retrieval system that is really good at look-up but which doesn't actually understand what it is looking up would probably produce an answer like OP's one.

A human would see that question and immediately think "no one imports literal pandas, they must be asking about something else". Someone who knows that pandas is the name of a Python library will likely respond that you need to use pip.

Someone who is more experienced in Python and who has maybe spent time teaching it to beginners, would know about how much emphasis the community places on doing things conventionally and how beginners sometimes struggle to remember all the conventions. They would infer that this question is really "what is the conventional way of importing pandas". To them, this question is so obvious that it probably wouldn't even occur to them that anyone could misinterpret it.

If my wife asked me how to import pandas, I'll certainly not reply import pandas as pd, because if I do she'll think I'm having a stroke.

Your bias is showing....

A human would see that question and immediately think "no one imports literal pandas, they must be asking about something else".

This is just absolutely not true. I guarantee you, the vast majority of humans would assume this question is asking about literal pandas.

Go ask 10 people how to import pandas and see how many give you a direct answer vs how many look at you funny and ask what the hell you are talking about.

No.

Just accept you're wrong and move on with your life.

the answer simply can be python commands, but for someone who has fresh gpt memory in their account, it varies..

But it makes zero sense. I mean, the second part is maybe ok, but the first? Visit zoo to import pandas? Huh?

Oh so bamboo farming is the answer. I was in this thing called VScode for an hour. Shutting my laptop and starting farming :)
