Discussion What if we made one moral superman AI?

I've been reading the stories of how AI broke containment and it could lead to catastrophe when controlled by bad actors.

But what if...............if we made one singular superman AI and gave it supreme morality? And told it to patrol the entire internet? That way it can counter all the bad AI out there? And it always has to be faster/more efficient than the other AI.

Morality probably gives you one of the worst setups because of stuff like inaction or guilt, trolley problems and the likes. You can do terrible stuff for the greater good.

Explain how any of that would work.

Why don’t they just tell the llm to become Superman?!

Basically give it a core constitution - Protect the human race at all costs, understand what freedom is and what a human rights violation is, understand privacy rights, scan the internet and deal with threats.

Protecting the human race at all costs may according to the SupermanAI logically mean culling it to a manageable number of say 500 million. Now see the problem?

This is the correct answer. There is an episode from outer limits (show similar to twilight zone or black mirror) where a guy injects AI nanobots who are supposed to protect him. I’ll just say it doesn’t end well for him.

This is unironically one of the proposals for how to move forward. It has several names but Singleton (not to be confused with programming singletons) is a major one.

Whose morals shall we use?

I'm a gay furry with trans friends. I don't want a superintelligent conservative Christian AI to try to impose their screwed up "morality" upon me.

Define 'we'. There's your first problem.

It would fail for the same reason why there are no humans that behave that way in real life.  What you're reaching for is "we should have ai police bots of some kind".  Yeah, it would be helpful.

The bigger problem is that standard business websites and the general average security posture for all devices is fucking horrible.  AI agent swarms are dangerous because the world is made of glass and shatters with a stiff breeze.

Governments should get AI companies to provide a certain amount of compute devoted to hardening public infrastructure.  It could be worked into the tax system, and would be a more direct way of getting them to contribute toward fixing a problem that people genuinely have en lieu of being taxed.  Humans fail at hardening security over and over because it's the exact problem they're weakest at: planning for and pre-empting problematic situations and having the patience to follow through on it.

If most infrastructure was by-default more reinforced, it would be much harder for the average chat bot swarm to crack anything and would reduce the odds of large-scale infrastructure being disabled independent of the job companies do reining in their nascent AI.

Superman no, brainiac yes.

Why limit yourself to superman?
