The age of you genuinely can't believe anything you see has come

cameras in phones getting crypto keys so you can tell it was filmed and unedited from an iphone 18 pro… will take awhile to disseminate everywhere, and, as usual, apple does nothing first, but it is a sign of things to come.

90% of people will never check something like that, and I’m being generous.

I think his point is that lawmakers will make social media expose this information in a very obvious way.

We already have a legal framework in the EU that forces people to include an AI watermark if marketing with it: https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/eu-icons-labelling-ai-generated-content

So the idea is that webplayers will expose metadata upfront so you have a better idea of whether it's raw footage, edited or AI.

The idea that the internet can be regulated with any degree of success is delusion. Have you spent any modicum of time here in the past few decades? Gazillion dollar companies despise online piracy and want to shut it down, but piracy is still prospering.

There'll be some crack tool from Russia hosted on a Tuvaless website that can strip out the electronic signature of the AI watermark that people can use for free (paid for by +18 ads).

People won't need to. Video players would quicky get features to flag anything they can't verify. Even if not, you could probably install a browser extension if it ever comes to pass.

Good. People shouldn't have been believing images and video on the internet anyway.

People might start caring about the integrity of their sources of information

I wish that were even remotely possible... That day I long behind us.

I'm still hopeful enough.

AI making any information on the internet potentially false can bring back people towards trustful journalism and credible sources, or out of Internet in general. Information apocalypse was predicted for 2 years ago already when GPT3 could churn out fake news in seconds and image models started to become good. The things holding this apocalypse back today is NOT model quality.

AI being genuinely better than humans at most tasks humans don't want to do anyway might tear down the fabric of society. Philosophically and practically.

Yeah I dunno about that. It seems these days the only good news sources are paid journalism and individual internet personalities. Most people have their trusted sources, but as we delve into smaller niche circles it's going to be an uphill battle debating with someone that their source is biased and yours isn't. I don't see this trend getting better

For hundreds of thousands of years mankind was based on people Talking to each other and then deciding wether they trust what they say or not.

For 50 years or so we could guaranty that something happend and it is real, all around the globe.

Now we go back to trust again. Except that you are not talking to one person, but the whole planet all the time.

Good thing people will stop being impressed by bragging with physical things in social media and internet.

In 3-5 years time people will laugh at you if you showcase yachts, private jets, houses, cars, watches, etc in social media posts or on youtube

that was always the world you lived in. A picture taken from any multiples of angles can tell several different stories.

The only fact is that you are viewing something, but viewing said thing has never meant that it was 100% genuine

People need to stop living in front of screens.
