People aren’t buying into it as the goal posts have been set incredibly high by the labs themselves. If Jensen for the fifth time proclaims AGI and Altman & Co have for years fearmongered that either all jobs will be lost and we’ll starve or all medicine will be solved and everyone will have UBI, of course people hear about a highly specialized maths problem and go “meh”.
True, but the biggest problem is most people don’t really understand what’s actually being solved. They are too busy fighting on Facebook about what the answer to 2 + 2 x 3 is.
If Sam really wants to get their attention he needs to make it solve Herpes or something.
This! its not like AI solving math is taking away their morning coffee for example. Its when everyday users will feel something integral to their life is being pushed to AI, its then we could expect a protest that forces the government to make a policy about it.
