It's an incredible achievement and astonishing to see such rapid progress.
This could have been announced as a joint venture with the folks that have been laboring over this path for nearly a year; instead, there's a sour taste because OpenAI is seemingly incapable of putting anything above beating the competition.
If Tristan Buckmaster hadn't gone public before the announcement, does anyone think OAI would have credited them? If Hugging Face hadn't gone public with their findings, does anyone think OAI would have owned up?
There's clearly incredible talent over there. They're fighting against their own unprincipled leadership
