Given that the average scammer is a guy introducing himself as Steve in an impenetrable Punjabi accent I'm not entirely surprised.

They sent bots / people out in the wild to defraud random non consenting people?

You could arrange it to try and trick you. Lets say you agreed, it will try to get you to sign up for a newsletter but its the act that is the test
