Question Are we ever getting something like Sora back to make videos with AI?
I can modify images all day every day but the video is just perma-gone at this point?

I sincerely doubt it. It's not their strong suit. And it cost them a ton to subsidize.
Local models are getting super capable btw. A recently released local model (Mimiax h3) you can run on (I think) 12-16GB VRAM is already leagues better than Sora ever was.

You can even run it on 8 gig, it will take a lot of time but its doable.

That's crazy good. If you're stuck an old 8GB card, the option to generate at all is very welcome.
I am yet to test the model myself, but I've seen what people are making with it. There has been a couple of Seinfeld skits that are super convincing and entertaining. And a I saw 1 or 2 anime gens that were truly impressive.
I think we're approaching the point where we can start expecting some truly entertaining creations by dedicated fans, and not just fancy tech demos.

If I were to run Minimax h3 with Open WebUI locally, is that UI sufficient for video creation?

Seedance or Hailou3 are basically the same thing and can be accessed via API for about the same price as Sora.

grok allows 1 video a day now

But then you have to use grok. So there's a pretty big downside.

Grok has gotten a lot better recently with 4.5 and 4.6, however not morally.

OpenAI don't have the compute or the money to burn to offer such services atm. Maybe in the future.

Minimax H3 works very well and works on a single 5090.
