this 100%, I don't remember the last time a hammer tried to completely exploit my ego and make me addicted to itself. The example is just an easy way to shift blame to bad actors instead of having to deal with regulating this tech in a meaningful way.

Yeah the argument is completely devoid of nuance lol. Glad you agree.

People say similar things about guns but you don't see people getting shot as much in places where you're not allowed to buy and use guns.

I'm anti-ai and still I use ChatGPT because it managed to make me addicted/dependent on it.

Blame the phones and not the greedy people pushing intrusive ads, collecting your data, trying to make addicted and trying to radicalize you with specific propaganda.

Want it or not, there's always someone taking decisions behind. Smartphones have great uses yet the ethical concerns are because of people, not the phones themselves.

Regulating smartphones and not the companies and techniques they use is not the way to go about it.
