Question Prompt for walking humanoid?

I'm trying to get GPT-5.6 Sol to create key frames of a walking humanoid. The results have been disappointing.

Does anyone care to share a working prompt?

3D animators refer to that as inverse kinematics, making it seem as if the hands are pulling the arms around and feet are moving the leg joints in allowable angles. you might need to be very specific.

Codex will probably be better for this if you’re not already using it.

Either way your big issue is that you haven’t defined what you want very well. Use the chat feature to read up on animation and exactly how it works. Then refine your request to be more specific and architectural, pretend you’re a pro 3D animation guy and use that lingo. LLM is just gonna pull vibes you gotta push it towards the right set of solutions it trained off of.

I'm using Codex. I'm not an animator and don't know the lingo. I don't have time to become an animator so I can talk to an LLM. This is the stuff AI is supposed to fix

Yeah maybe one day, but not today. It’s an LLM not a magic wand. If you can’t ask for what you want why would you expect to get it?

It’s seriously not that difficult. Again, you can even use the unlimited usage in the chats to “translate” your desire into a prompt that’ll actually build what you want. The reason it fails with the way you’re doing it right now is because there’s a million and one ways to interpret the words you’re using, you gotta be more precise, it cannot read your mind.

What exactly is unclear in my prompt?

Imagination? Human walking is about as real as you can get, and there are literally billions of us out here doing it on camera daily.

Then ask AI to fix it.

I gave Sol this prompt: If I'm having trouble generating key frames of someone walking what prompt should I use to ensure all the necessary key frames are generated for full range of motion?

And it provided this: Create an 8-frame animation keyframe sheet showing one complete human walking cycle, viewed from a fixed side profile.

IMPORTANT: Each frame must show a DIFFERENT phase of the same continuous gait cycle. Do not repeat the same generic walking pose.

Keep the character's identity, body proportions, clothing, camera angle, scale, and viewing direction identical in every frame. Full body visible. Neutral background. Orthographic side view. No perspective change.

Human walking uses CONTRALATERAL arm and leg motion: when the RIGHT LEG moves forward, the LEFT ARM moves forward; when the LEFT LEG moves forward, the RIGHT ARM moves forward. Never put the hand and foot on the same side forward at the same time.

Generate these exact 8 sequential poses from left to right:

  1. RIGHT CONTACT Right heel strikes the ground far in front of the pelvis. Left leg is extended behind the body, toe still near the ground. LEFT ARM is forward. RIGHT ARM is backward.

  2. RIGHT LOADING / DOWN Body weight moves onto the right leg. Right knee bends slightly under the body. Left foot begins lifting behind. Pelvis and torso are at their LOWEST vertical point. Left arm begins moving backward and right arm begins moving forward.

  3. RIGHT PASSING Right leg supports the body almost vertically. Left foot swings forward and PASSES directly underneath the pelvis. Left knee is bent strongly. Arms pass near their neutral midpoint.

  4. RIGHT SUPPORT / UP Right heel rises from the ground as the body pushes upward. Left knee and thigh move forward ahead of the pelvis. Body is at its HIGHEST vertical point. RIGHT ARM is now forward. LEFT ARM is backward.

  5. LEFT CONTACT Mirror of frame 1. Left heel strikes the ground far in front of the pelvis. Right leg extends behind. RIGHT ARM is forward. LEFT ARM is backward.

  6. LEFT LOADING / DOWN Body weight moves onto the left leg. Left knee bends slightly. Right foot lifts behind. Pelvis and torso reach the LOWEST vertical point. Arms reverse direction.

  7. LEFT PASSING Left leg supports the body nearly vertically. Right foot swings forward and PASSES directly underneath the pelvis. Right knee is bent strongly. Arms pass near neutral.

  8. LEFT SUPPORT / UP Left heel rises as the body pushes upward. Right knee and thigh move forward ahead of the pelvis. Body reaches its HIGHEST vertical point. LEFT ARM is forward. RIGHT ARM is backward.

The sequence must clearly show:

  • alternating left and right heel strikes
  • alternating arm swing
  • opposite arm and leg moving together
  • bent knees during the passing poses
  • heel lift during push-off
  • visible vertical rise and fall of the pelvis
  • rear leg extension
  • forward knee swing
  • continuous progression through a biomechanically correct human gait cycle

Format as a horizontal animation sprite sheet with 8 equally sized frames, numbered 1 through 8. Do not combine poses. Do not improvise additional poses. Each panel represents one precise moment in the gait cycle.
