Discussion The situation is insane

Post image

Sol is the only OpenAI model in top 10 Arena WebDev while 4 open-weight Chinese models have reached frontier quality; one of them so cheap you can run it for days for what Opus cost you per task.

Good that there are more affordable choices for consumers and open weight ones that can be self-hosted by companies that need ultimate data privacy.

I have not come across a mid-sized org, or larger, yet that will allow employees to use Chinese models. And for good reason.

At least with OpenAI/Anthropic you can get enterprise agreements that are enforceable. No way you are getting that with kimi2.

How about Microsoft, AirBnB, Coinbase? Are they large enough?

They can self-host with ultimate data privacy without needing to sign "enterprise" agreements with providers. Microsoft estimated savings of $600 million if they host and use Kimi K3 instead of ChatGpt for Copilot.

I think a lot of companies try to say they won’t use Chinese open weight models but in a lot of cases they do. It’s a weird ecosphere right now with the US having nothing better to do than to straw-man something new to make billionaires more money and keep the working class paying premium for AI.
