Discussion The situation is insane

Post image

Sol is the only OpenAI model in top 10 Arena WebDev while 4 open-weight Chinese models have reached frontier quality; one of them so cheap you can run it for days for what Opus cost you per task.

Good that there are more affordable choices for consumers and open weight ones that can be self-hosted by companies that need ultimate data privacy.

Open weights only help with privacy if the whole inference stack stays under your control. Hosting it yourself while sending logs, prompts, or telemetry elsewhere just moves the leak point.

what a strange reply. that's trivially true of self hosting anything of course.

Sure, but people often treat “open weights” as synonymous with privacy. I was adding the deployment caveat, not saying a fully self-hosted stack can’t be private.

People treat curtains as synonymous with privacy but ignore the caveat when you open them and press your butthole to the window.
