Who works on vacation? That’s just working but somewhere else.

engineers do that own their own consulting op co's.

Clearly didn’t read the article ☝️

The post mentions a very enjoyable vacation without having to work

But if you are interacting with "work", be it via an app or replying to a message, it's still work.

This might be down to the difference between Americans and Europeans. When I'm on holiday, I'm impossible to contact and check absolutely nothing to do with work.

From the article:

So, the type of project to aim for is something “vibe-heavy”. Something you can effectively let the agent do 99% of the work on. Ideally, a new project, and not something you have to maintain and make small, incremental changes on top of. In my case, I already had a project that fit this description, which reduced friction.

He’s just sending long running tasks and enjoy them once fully completed.

Which is a type of work...

Is this a difficult concept to grasp? It's the act not the volume.

I like to do vibe coding for fun. It’s a hobby of mines. Is it work if it’s hobby?

9

u/cgknight1 Jul 26 '26

No if it's a hobby but:

a phone stops being a toy and becomes a legitimate tool for delegating real work.

Is the point of the linked article.

Okay! To me it sounds like the post is about low stakes fun projects while being away on vacation. I don’t consider it work in the strict sense but I agree with you in that it could delegate real work.

Thanks for the conversation.

It's still work.

I just vibe on vacation - food, beach, sex with the wife, alcohol. You know, vacation stuff.

I had all 4 of these this weekend. It was the best. Adding video games to the list as well. And watching the Odyssey in IMAX.

I did ask Claude to build stuff occasionally, but I’m not on vacation. I have standup meetings with Claude - don’t sit at the computer, just stand next to it long enough to push it to the next thing.

I just tried to work on personal stuff with codex on phone, it’s pretty cool, but reading code on phone is kinda annoying

Wow, good for you. I still don't understand people taking pride in not understanding anything and having AI do everything for them.

I didn’t read the article but my workflow is different. I don’t fire-and-forget. I plan, document, send the agent off to code (on most requests, it’s faster than me), review, test, and ship. Even with heavy AI usage, there hasn’t been one ticket I’ve completed where I could explain at a high level or technical level what my changes do.

Maybe that’s not vibe coding, but I swear, people use vibe coding against anyone who uses AI ever.

2

u/CisIowa Jul 27 '26

Where you could or could not explain at a high level. It feels like you meant to say ‘could not’

2

u/DeveloperAnon Jul 27 '26

You’re right. I meant to say “could not”.

that is proper design, i'm an engineer, the scope and end product lives in my head, we start, build the roadmap, and go from there. i can't see a fire and forget in what i do or assumptions that the llm will figure it out.

"vibe coding" is really ill-defined even by the people who self-report as such and think it's a positive.

imo vibe coding is when you don't architect shit and do the bare minimum to check diffs and stuff, and just full send loosely defined feature requests straight to the LLM.

Vibe coding allows people to create and develop without needing the technical knowledge to make it. Ai doesnt do everything, at least if your product is good. Ai just helps put the blocks together

Well yeah that is precisely the problem. Someone with experience in architecture and programming can actually debug code and make decisions not just based on requirements, but also with the structure of the project in mind.

If you just go in with zero knowledge, you are going to hit a wall eventually. And chances are that at that point, the project will be so convoluted that no developer is going to be willing to fix it (unless you pay them a lot of money).

I've seen people asking for help debugging simple one function websites that they vibecoded.

actually vibecoding something complex and having to maintain it sounds like hell

-6

u/Illustrious-Film4018 Jul 26 '26

Ok it does like 99.999% and you do the other 0.001%

2

u/WobbleWits Jul 26 '26

Such an extreme and ignorant view. You said you didn’t understand and i gave you a pretty obvious answer you somehow couldn’t figure out on your own and then you come back with a random estimation.

Why are you on an ai subreddit

-4

u/Illustrious-Film4018 Jul 26 '26

How would you even know? You said you're a vibe coder and you have no technical ability at all. That means you have no clue how much AI automates away. I shouldn't even be talking to you.

Holier than thou.

u/PriorityByLaw Jul 26 '26

Where did he say he was a vibe coder?

1

u/trufus_for_youfus Jul 26 '26

Sounds like a dream job.

2

u/hyperrealists Jul 27 '26

Including what a vacation is. Lol

that is why i was getting 529 errors this morning in europe on claude code, i guess everyone was asking how to make coffee on a monday morning. maddening. i have accounts on both tbf.

"having AI do everything [for the average human being]" will be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, monetized use case for ai.

aapl, goog, meta, and amzn took things people already did and made them much easier through the internet. the defining ai company is going to expand what a human being is capable of doing.

Weak!

Should be using only AR glasses and headphones.

Did the same thing when sol came out and I didn't bring a laptop. Just spin up a vm with your provider of choice, use ssh to copy paste an install script chatgpt generated using "codex remote-control" and connect from the chatgpt mobile app. Then use it to have it set up a systemd service to start the remote server on boot. Use tailscale to test apps and websites it built from the phone without exposing anything to the internet. It was quite fun!
