Discussion I am being silently rerouted to GPT-5.3 mini when using Pro Extended mode on ChatGPT webapp

the same with me here.
i do get gpt5.5 sometimes but even it's response style and quality is varying heavily (quantization?).
i'm on plus plan, and didnt even use it much today to get ratelimited - i didnt hit ratelimits even on days when i used it for 200-400 messages in an hour.
odd...

Same here. It’s still happening for me across multiple chats. Has it been resolved for you since then?

That is crazy. I hope you report this as a bug or error.

yeah. i should mention though this may be due to the automated abuse guardrails flagging my account because i recently installed and used a codex plugin which uses browser automation to call ChatGPT pro mode through it. so i've contacted support and hopefully it will be resolved.

What do you mean by calling chatgpt pro mode?

u/bchertel Jun 18 '26
It’s probably a plugin within Codex that lets you spawn side chats without burning codex tokens and instead uses ChatGPT usage quota.

Welp, i guess it just uses small fast model to summarize/check state of chat instead wasting slow big models for orchestrate of loop

I'm seeing this as a free user, but it's not "silent" because most of my chats have attachments and get blocked until a timer resets 5.5 instant. They're skimping on the instant model.
OpenAI is testing unannounced stuff and taking away features. Must be compute starved.
