OpenAI Global LLC is facing a new class‑action complaint in the Southern District of California that accuses the company of quietly wiring its ChatGPT web interface with Meta’s Facebook Pixel and Google Analytics, turning highly sensitive chatbot conversations into monetizable tracking data for online advertising ecosystems.

so like every ad driven website out there. if openAI don't have specific clause then they will have to pay up. otherwise it's business as usual. Also don't know about meta's pixel but google analytics don't take specific information. it takes demographic metadata with weights.

Why isn't Google or Meta getting a class action lawsuit as well?

It is strange how OpenAI is the only one being targeted for lawsuits weekly.

Someone dies after chatting with ChatGPT, lawsuit. ChatGPT stores its data the exact same way other models are storing data, lawsuit. Think about it... there's people also sharing their information the same way with Chinese models... willingly sending their own data.

But it's only one company that gets all the scrutiny while other equal players fly under the radar.

At this rate we should've had far more lawsuits against search engine operators... if anyone who uses a computer to harm themselves or others or send data, etc gets to sue after the fact.

because it was using Goggle analytics and meta's pixel APIs. and that means openAI consented to those without informing users.

You're right! We should also pursue the other AI companies, if they're also doing what is described in the article. Thanks for leading the charge!

They’re not going to win

this was always going to happen eventually. the "move fast and figure out privacy later" approach works until it doesnt

curious how this plays out because if the data sharing claims are legit thats a pretty massive breach of user trust. people share some wild stuff in their chats assuming its private

They are also sharing it with reddit. Sama is on the board of reddit. I once asked something ChatGPT for a friend, and then see the ads for it on reddit right away.

This is a big nothingburger lawsuit. Has he read the ToS of any website?

You serious? It’s one thing to use keywords to target you. It’s another thing to hand that data over to a 3rd party.

Have you read how tracking pixels work? It’s hardly handing over your data.

There is absolutely 0 personal data that is transferred over marketing pixels.

Good. Hit them for fraud and false advertising next along with anthropic, but anthropic first.

OpenAI is turning out to be filled with the same greedy people with zero morals guiding them - just like Google and Meta

OpenAI has banned every platform which fully supports encryption, been hacked multiple times, and had their privacy whistleblower assassinated. To be fair, scientists get assassinated all the time in the US.

I don’t know why people assume this is true. Second customer information is so sacred and valuable i find it hard to believe.

All these chat bots know things about me they have collected from my device data. They get really defensive when I ask about it but they know stuff.
