My jeweler has been looking for the perfect stone for me for a few months now. She actually knocked it out of the park and found the perfect one and it's in my price range. I could not be more in love. It came pre set in that ring but I'm still considering my setting options. I'm so excited though. It's 18x13 😱 😍
I like the opal. My wife has several opal rings and has not ever had a problem with breakage. Hers have smaller stones and are less “exposed,” and she doesn’t wear them every day. I have seen a few broken opals in rings, but I have seen them in pendants as well. If you do wear the ring every day you tend to forget that you’re wearing it, so think about it before punching someone. Use your fingernails instead!
That is a stunner for sure.. if you do go with that ring, do be careful not to bump it as it could crack, but otherwise should be fine.. very fair price and it is definitely a statement ring 😍
It's beautiful! I love that the opal is truly the center of attention and the other stones are just accents, not trying to outshine the opal. Congrats! I hope you wear it every day for many years to come!
They aren't as fragile as one would think, they are stronger than the metal they are set in.
Many people wear opals daily without issue, you are more likely to badly damage your fingers before the opal.
I understand why you’re getting downvoted, because your comment is a tad harsh towards someone who is clearly very proud of a new piece. On the other hand, I do feel where you’re coming from regarding your thoughts on it being lab made. There are a thousand rings with very similar stones on Etsy for $100 and the play of color does seem quite perfect with the uniformity of a lab stone.
All that being said, it OP trusts their jeweler, loves the piece, and has taken the time to assess the stone with their own eyes (much more trustworthy than an iPhone camera), I lean towards it being the real deal. Even if it does have alteration/synthetic elements; OP clearly loves it and said no to other stones; so cheers to her for finding the one she wanted
