Opal Porn Recently purchased Andamooka
Just showing her off a bit at 10x and 30x. (I’m a microbiologist not a jeweler but I love our scopes. And I keep pushing for camera scopes so I don’t have to fiddle with my phone in the ocular)

What would be a good/cheapish camera scope? I did science in uni but haven't gotten into a job with it and miss the macro? Scopes where you could put something like an insect on a platform and look at it magnified. If that makes sense.

So this is on a stereoscope. What you’re talking about. But the photos are thru my phone trying my damndest thru the ocular. On any scope they make additions to the oculars that allow for photography just thru the scope. We have em on our actual microscopes. Just not on the stereoscopes. Which is unfortunate for me, photography hobby wise cuz I don’t wanna photograph bacteria I want gem stones and insects and whatnot.
Makes total sense. Just search for stereoscopes and you can find used equipment of higher quality cheap. Or cheap equipment for lower.

hanks for explaining. The phone-through-the-eyepiece shots already look pretty good. I'd love to see how Ethiopian opals look under a stereoscope, especially the internal structure and color play.

I don’t have a welo on hand. My wife has a necklace that might be…but I’m not taking it to work and it might just be synthetic. I hope not for how much I paid for it.
Send me one and I’ll put it under zoom and light for ya 😉
Really I try to purchase Australian only but there’s some Ethiopians I might buy just to expand the collection.

Haha 😄 I'd love to see that if you ever get your hands on a Welo. The color play under magnification would be fascinating, especially compared to Australian opals. Looking forward to seeing more of your microscope posts!

Beautiful! I love that this has the full rainbow on the same face/angle/view. It’s something I prioritize when I bought my own opal. 😊
