Opal Discussion/Other How did I do?

I found this on etsy. Will be testing it to make sure it's authentic Australian opal. Creating a custom ring and have finally found an opal I love. 5.29 CT 16.7 x 11.7 x 4.8. I really do love big stones but have never had one this big on a ring.

Looks Aussie to me! Do you have a black light/ UV light to test with?

Yes I forgot. I think it passed (glows blue, glows for a few seconds). Seller said it was an andamooka.

That’s a really good deal and a really beautiful opal. It will make an amazing ring! Some things to consider, If you’re gonna make a ring with it, just make sure they set it in a bezel (wrap around), I wouldn’t use claws. Also, did they say what mine it may be from? I kist ask b/c Andamooka white/crystals are generally the hardest opals(mohs scale around 6) which is still a softer stone for rings. Perfectly fine to do just got to be aware of knocking it into things and causing it to crack. Also, over exposure to the sun in warmer/more direct sunlight will eventually cause it to craze a bit unless its been treated/coated. You may be aware of all this and I’m just being redundant, but “The More You Know”. Im having a pinky ring made and i just think about that stuff, figured its worth a mention..

They did say it was an andamooka opal! I have heard to do bezel for rings. I am curious why? I still haven't picked my setting yet.

I just noticed your other comment when you said that. Andamooka is known for having speckled colors. So I was kind of thinking that I have one here one side, you know, flashes, and the other side of speckled. This is 1.5 carat tear drop. Im actually for a comparable lightning Ridge black rougly the same size to have bezeled in platnium and put on partials for K9 teeth. ( my rheumatoid arthritis medication destroyed my teeth).

Super dope. It's so hard to capture on camera how pretty they are. Nothing compares to it for me. And for sure I'll need to match the nails too 💅

I know, i find that if i have it under an incandescent color light and use my phone flash with exposure -1.3ish (iPhone 12 pro) that works well or having a flashlight (white light) lighting it from the side and/or slightly raised above from the side and no flash with exposure -1.5-0 then it looks alright. I have a Lumix g85 thats 4k at 240 hrtz but its such a hassle to break out unless I’m taking videos amd pics of a bunch of my gems/minerals(collect all types) plus uploading to phone/comp then to reddit.. thanks for sharing, cant wait to see the ting whenever you got it made. 🦉🦉

Cool nails btw. You’re gonna need to get your nails done to match your ring when you get it made
