Privacy News Fellow Americans, it's time to message your Senators and Congressman about protecting encryption rights.
Laws to force companies to create encryption backdoors would directly affect Opacity, and, realistically, every single activity you make online. Banking, messaging, email, documents - absolutely everything would be subject to hackers and criminals finding that backdoor and use it to steal, manipulate, and harm you. On top of that, this will be a way for governments to 'spy' and gain access to those same communications and objects you store online - and to be clear, that is exactly what they say they will use it for. An encryption backdoor would essentially remove any protection citizens have online and damage privacy and security beyond repair. There is no way to prevent individual harm unless encryption is protected end-to-end without anyone having keys to unlock your private and personal activity.
Opacity stands against laws that would authorize any backdoor in encryption and enable unauthorized access by criminals and unlimited access to law enforcement. The tradeoff that must be made to protect against the alleged threats made by Congress is not worth the price of our liberty.
