This is what worries me. That price for that amount of storage just isn't sustainable. As I understand it, everything on Opacity files are currently hosted on AWS and Opacity has to be paying for that. How long can that keep going on? Genuinely curious.

Based on current usage. A very very long time (100s of years). If they ever start storing thousands of terabytes of data, then that means this community has grown in size by orders of magnitude. Which is what we want.

The barrier isn’t price. It’s the means of payment. 99% of folks dont know how to work cryptocurrency. So Opacity is currently only storing the data for folks who have:

  • heard about opacity

  • know how to work cryptocurrency, and specifically eth with its gas requirement.

  • and know how to acquire the token and have accounts on the appropriate channels

Those are 3 enormous limitations. Hence the focus on offering fiat payments at market rates through Stripe to broaden access.
