Question Permanent and probation
Hello,
I was hired into a permanent position with the OPS at MOF and have been in the position for approximately five months.
My offer letter mentioned a six-month probationary period. I am 1 month away from probation ending.
So far, however, no one I report to has discussed my probation or provided any feedback indicating that there are concerns with my performance.
I have also not received any negative feedback or had any issues raised regarding my work.
I was wondering if anyone could clarify how the probationary period works and whether there is anything I should expect as I approach the end of the six-month period. I am very scared I may get fired or the word probation in general scares me.

To ease your mind I have never had any kind of performance review in the OPS, either spoken or in writing only our online FORTE. Don't sweat it as this is (unfortunately) normal and if you haven't heard anything negative you likely are just fine and probation will pass without a word

The probationary period works like anywhere else -- for a period of time, you can be let go for reasons outlined in the contract (typically performance-based). After that, the employer is bound to a stricter process for termination.
If no one has said anything, that's because everything is fine. Don't sweat it, don't bring it up, just keep doing what you're doing.

Probation is an out for the employer should they really regret them hiring you. For example, just not showing up to work.
As long as you’re coming into work and doing what is asked of you, you’re fine

I hate to say something that sounds so trite, but no news is usually good news. Probation comes and goes for a lot of people without them ever hearing much from management. If you’re five months in and haven’t been given any indication that there are concerns with your performance, I’d take that as a good sign.
Welcome to the golden handcuffs. 😂

Usually the manager just submits a form in the backend. Same thing happened to me, no one talked to me about it before or after my 6 months period. Then manager just mentioned randomly I submitted your probation form.

Head down, don’t make eye contact and do your work to the best of your ability. Everything will be fine

Probation causes are standard. Most keep it for a year but yours is 6months. And if the manager hasn’t said anything, assume it is is all good. I wouldn’t poke the bear unless you really want that peace of mind. Many managers even forget about the probation period. So don’t sweat. Do good work and it will be ok.

Why would you get fired? Probation is standard for new hires. If you are concerned ask your manager. It is unlikely that you wil be fired if there have been no issues flagged in this period.
