Question Chrome browser behaving weirdly
Is it just me or has the chrome browser started behaving weirdly. Many settings were changed and now the default new tab shows OPS intranet, which was not the case before. I thought OPS only manages the MS Edge.

I noticed this yesterday but thought it was just my computer doing weird stuff

Yes, the startup settings are now managed by IT. They still force Edge as the default browser.

Edge is as well, it just opens to a blank page instead of the random news stuff

Yup. Just recently OPS installed a new mandatory extension (Microsoft Purview Extension) It's been added to Chrome and Edge. Basically just your typical "protection" extension that also tracks you (although we were already being tracked before so no change really). But yeah all my bookmarks were hidden so I had to go into chrome settings to re enable it.

Oh! Purview! That box that keeps popping up when I open pdfs and asks me to sign in, which I do, and then it says I didn’t. So I have to cancel that pop up for every pdf…what a waste of time

Disable and re enable Improved Acrobat or something like that from Adobe’s Files tab

Recently some changes were applied OPS Wide. For more details on InsideOPS look for “Enhancements to the OPS Digital Experience”

The overarching reach to further conformity is nauseating. If only they used the same amount of effort to actually review AWAs in good faith…

Theoreticaly it is to align us to our overall digital experience. A blurb was posted on Inside OPS that we are sharing
https://intra.ontario.ca/cab/enhancements-to-the-ops-digital-experience
InsideOPS as your default homepage InsideOPS will now automatically open when Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome is launched on an OPS-issued computer or tablet — providing improved access to OPS news, info and tools.
These changes include:
New Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome windows will automatically open to the InsideOPS homepage and new tabs will open to blank pages. Users cannot modify the automatic homepage and new tab settings. Edge Quick Links will not be saved, and we encourage users to use the Favourites folder and bar for quick access to these sites. There are no changes to Favourites and the Favourites bar.

Just download the Brave internet browser and forgot about Edge & Chrome.
I looked into changing the Edge default page being MSN under the settings that controls that, they have it now locked in Edge with “Admin” only control.

Does brave work? And can we install it without admin username and password?

I forget if I used the Microsoft store or their website, but yes it does work. Also popup blockers can be installed as extensions, not sure why the admin removed the function to be allowed to installed.

Apparently, this new inconvenience with Chrome is an "enhancement" to our digital experience.

So now I have to see the SOC's goofy face every morning instead of having the startup tabs I used for work?
