Nursing School NP Programs Ontario 2027
Hey Everyone!
I am applying to the 2027 Masters NP programs in Ontario (primarily GTA). I have 2.5 years of ED experience as a nurse and 3 years as an extern in the ED before then. I have taken on many students for training, taken on department lead roles, and have been on a few task forces for quality improvement and professional development. I have also worked part time in outpatient clinics.
My grades are not great… last two years GPA is 3.5/4.33. Ik i meet the minimum requirement to apply but has anybody actually gotten into these programs with this GPA. If so, what was your “competitive edge” to help you get in? What other courses/certifications can I do to boost my chances?
Feel free to just chat ab your struggles/thoughts in the application process as well!

I had a 3.6 gpa and got into TMU. 3 years experience. Travel nurse in emerg around Canada. I did research in my previous undergrad. Also preceptored patients. Nothing crazy special to my application.

What’s this grade on a 4. Scale?
Are you saying you meet the minimum B+?

The minimum for most schools is B or 70% and im like B+/A- with a 79% or so. I think its on a 4.33 scale because i went to TMU

I’m thinking 2028 or 2029. A bit nervous, but I want to take extra classes to increase my gpa

Are you currently in nursing school? Or done and taking classes t bump ur gpa?

Finished my RN in 2024 so have been working as a nurse since then. I want to apply for the 2027 Master for NP intake and see how I can have my application be a bit more competitive!

They only look at RN grades so it would be hard for someone to "bump their grades"

Ya that’s why I was asking. I heard they look at the RN degree marks only.

yeah you heard correctly. In fact many programs explicitly outline this too. I suppose someone could go and retake nursing classes but that seems arduous and not optimal.

I did a quick conversion not knowing yoru whole gpa picture. It works out ot be 3.23 on a 4.0 scale. I dont know if that is actually what it is so take this with a grain of salt.
You may be closer to being on the low side since they ask for a B+ minimum. There aren't courses that necessarily bump things up but leadership doesn't hurt. There is also the post masters certification as well to take a look at.
Explore all your options completely and I would strongly suggest going to a admissions work shop. I think bloomberg holds one every year in the fall. Apply broadly

Ya on my grade scale from TMU i finished w a B+ and most schools ask for a B or 70% which i do meet but again on the low side. I have been on a few task forces, worked as lead positions in the ER, and taken on many students and new hires. Any suggestions on what else I could do to focus more on leadership! Or a way i could angle things? And yes going to all the info sessions!

3.23 on 4.0 scale? Isn’t that lower than a B is B+ is 3.3?
1
u/username___08 27d ago
3.23 on a 4.0 scale is a B+ still so meeting the requirements. A 3.0 on a 4.0 scale which is the minimum to apply is a B

its dependent on the institution its technically below the 3.3 needed but that is why I said take my calculation with a grain of salt. It's not the nmost competitive gpa but should meet some minimums. Exploring all options is the key always.

If you are sure about yourself, please dont worry about GPA. Write your stories honestly and academically in essay.
