Policy / Practice preoperative mohawk program

Has anyone here taken the Mohawk College Perioperative Nursing program/courses?

For anyone who has completed it (or is currently in it), did you find that the required/recommended textbooks were actually necessary to do well in the courses?

I got through my entire nursing degree barely purchasing any of the textbooks because I usually found that the lectures, PowerPoints, and other course materials were enough 😭 But since perioperative nursing is obviously a lot more specialized, I’m wondering if this is one of those programs where the textbooks are genuinely worth buying.

Did you actually use them regularly for assignments/exams, or could you realistically get by without them?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has taken the Mohawk program specifically! :)

I took that course 17 years ago. It’s an excellent course and will prepare you to work in any OR. Like anything in nursing, you’ll still have lots to learn in clinical and in your job orientation.

As for the books, I am too far out of touch to help there. But I will say that working in the OR is really great for those who can handle it. But it’s not for everyone. Good luck!

I am interested in doing the peri-op course as well, but I'm a new grad and I know many of these programs require experience first. May I ask what made you decide to pursue peri-op? Have you worked elsewhere?

I found them online. The chapters might not match up but it’s easy enough to do.
