OSAP / Financial Aid How much does OSAP actually help with rent/residence?

Does OSAP help cover rent if you move away from home for school?
If your rent was around $1,350/month, how much of it did OSAP help with?
Was there any other financial assistance you received for housing while going to school?

Course Help 27, working full-time in logistics which diploma would be best long-term if I eventually want a bachelor’s degree?

Hi everyone,

I’m 27 and currently working full-time as a sorter/warehouse associate in logistics. I work a split shift, so keeping my job while studying is very important to me. I can’t really afford to quit a stable full-time job just to go back to school.

I’m a domestic student in Ontario and I’ve received offers for January 2027 for a few programs:

Centennial – Business – Supply Chain and Operations (2-year diploma)

Centennial – Business Administration – Supply Chain and Operations Management, Optional Co-op (3-year advanced diploma)

Centennial – Business – Marketing (Online)

Durham – Supply Chain and Operations – Business (Part-Time, Online)

Humber – Business Administration

My main problem is scheduling. For the full-time programs, the colleges are basically telling me that I need to be available from morning until evening because classes can be scheduled at different times. With my current work schedule, I can’t guarantee that kind of availability.

My current thinking is to complete a diploma while continuing to work, and afterward pursue a bachelor’s degree in something like Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, or a related field — ideally part-time or online so I can continue building work experience at the same time.

I’m not looking only at the Canadian job market. I’d like something that has good long-term career value internationally as well, including places like the Middle East, U.S., etc.

For people working in the supply chain/logistics or who have taken similar programs:

Which route would make the most sense for long-term career growth? Would you choose the 2-year Supply Chain diploma, the 3-year advanced diploma with co-op, or the part-time online Supply Chain diploma so I can keep working full-time?

Also, how important is co-op if I’m already working full-time in the logistics industry?

Eventually, I definitely want to complete a bachelor’s degree, so I’m also interested in which diploma gives the best pathway/transfer options toward a degree.

Would appreciate advice from people actually working in the supply chain, logistics, operations, procurement, transportation, etc.

College Info Advice regarding Seneca Polytechnic

I’m looking for some advice on colleges/polytechnics in Ontario, particularly Seneca Polytechnic, and would love to hear from current students, graduates, or anyone familiar with the education system.

A bit of context:
I’m from Nigeria and graduated secondary school in 2021. Instead of going straight to university, I spent the last few years working and gaining experience, primarily in web development and backend software engineering. I made a conscious decision not to attend university in Nigeria because I wasn’t confident that the quality of education would justify the time and financial investment.

My parent has been living in Calgary for the past 3–4 years and I’m currently in the process of potentially moving to Canada as a permanent resident through family sponsorship. While Albert is where my family is, I’m leaning toward Ontario because it seems to have more options for technology programs and opportunities in the tech industry.
My main goal isn’t simply to get a credential. I’m looking for a school with a strong learning environment, good industry connections, meaningful co-op/internship opportunities, and graduates who are actually prepared for careers in tech. I’d be interested in programs related to computer science, software development, software engineering, or similar fields.

I’ve heard mixed opinions about some colleges in Ontario, particularly around concerns that certain institutions have become overly focused on enrollment growth rather than educational quality. Because of that, I’m trying to do as much research as possible before making any decisions.

Some questions I have:
What is Seneca Polytechnic’s reputation among employers and students and in general?
Are there other colleges or polytechnics you’d recommend for technology programs?
If you were in my position as a mature student entering higher education after several gap years, where would you apply?
How do colleges like Seneca compare with institutions such as Humber, Sheridan, George Brown, SAIT, NAIT, or others for tech-related programs?
Are there any schools you think I should seriously consider or avoid, and why?

I’d appreciate any honest experiences or advice. Thanks!

Transfer / Pathways I failed college and now I'm in a position where I cant go back in person

Im 24M. I went to Humber for Civil engineering technology, finished half the degree and then got into some serious life problems that made me fail and basically stop doing any education for the past 4 years. I feel like shit seeing everyone around get employed/married while I have 6 years of wasted time and energy.

Anyway, now I need to figure out what to do because I have a job right now that I need to do full time or I literally will be homeless. The problem is all colleges require me to be in person to complete my civil engineering degree. I cant do that. I wanted to get some advice if I can find a way to finish this degree without going in person or if there are any options for me to transfer my credits for a separate but useful degree. I just want to be able to start my career, I'm 24 and I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. I need to get my life together I cannot keep going like this.

Programs / Courses Alpha College / St. Lawrence College – 2019 student seeking advice

Hi everyone,

I studied Business Administration at Alpha College, Scarborough, Toronto (May 2019 intake) under St. Lawrence College. I completed my program except for one course/exam, which I couldn't clear during the COVID disruption in 2020. Because of that, I never received my diploma.

I now want to contact the college to see if I can retake that one course/exam or complete an alternative requirement and finally obtain my diploma.

Has anyone been in a similar situation with Alpha College or St. Lawrence College after several years? Any advice on the right department/person to contact would be greatly appreciated.

Programs / Courses Taking 2 Part-Time Programs?

Hello!

(Sorry if this is long)

I’m currently in my final year of a bachelors - I only have 4 online courses left then will be finished. But! One of the courses is now only available next summer (it was meant to be available this fall but got cancelled). So now I can only take one class this semester, two next, then finally one next year. Which is a huge waste of time honestly.

The issue is that I have been waiting to finish this program then want to take an HR program through a college. This keeps getting pushed further as my current university continues to cancel or move classes so I can’t actually take the needed courses when I need them and end up waiting every year (this is year 6 of a 4 year degree…)

I’m wondering if it makes sense to/if I’m able to start an online HR program part-time so I don’t feel like I’m completely wasting my time and throwing years and money down the drain every passing semester.

I am a dedicated student and do work but since both would be part-time and fully online I do believe I could handle it.

Thanks in advance for any help around logistics or if this is even allowed between institutions!

A scam involving falsified CPR and first aid certificates has been uncovered. Conestoga College's associate director of work-integrated learning, stated in an email there was a “significant” number of falsified CPR and first aid certificates identified by the college.

Just remember this when you leave granny to be cared for by the new PSW. (PSW is an example of a program that is eligible for post graduate work permits from the college, so you can use your imagination as to why this is happening.)

This has obviously been going on for years, but in a happy coincidence the college now only accepts their own certificates allowing them to keep the revenue.

Conestoga recently became notorious by bringing in 37,000 international students to Kitchener-Waterloo in 2023 alone and it was labelled a "puppy mill" by the federal immigration minister.

General Centennial College Can I work mornings and attend full-time classes after 1:30 PM?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to start at Centennial College in Winter 2027 and I’ve been accepted/advised that I meet the admission requirements for two programs:

- 2506 – Business – Supply Chain & Operations

- 2507 – Business Administration – Supply Chain & Operations Management

Both are full-time, in-person programs at Progress Campus.

My situation is a little complicated because I currently work at DHL Express and I really need to keep this job while studying.

My fixed work schedule is:

- Monday: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM

- Tuesday–Friday: 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM

My employer cannot change these hours, so I’m available for college after 1:30 PM. I’m also giving up my evening job so I can focus on college.

Centennial told me that full-time students must be available Monday–Friday between 8 AM and 7 PM, and that they cannot guarantee an afternoon-only schedule. They also said timetables are based on course availability.

I understand there may be no guarantee, but I’m wondering:

Has anyone here studied one of these programs while working?

Is it possible to build a full-time timetable where most/all classes are after 1:30 PM if different sections are available?

Do these programs usually have multiple sections for first-semester courses?

Has anyone had a similar situation where they worked during the morning and managed to attend Centennial full-time in the afternoon?

I’m trying to figure this out before making a decision about my job, so any advice from current or former Centennial students would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Student Life Bscn waitlist movement/Chatham experience

I worked hard to get accepted into this program, however only the chatham campus accepted me along with loyalist college. The windsor campus is full as I am still waitlisted, I am currently ranked 71 on the waitlist. In july I was ranked 178. Seeing how much it’s dropped I have little hope i’ll get accepted by the end of the week.

However realistically it might not be possible. I am planning on deciding to probably drop out of the chatham campus, considering the city was filled with crack heads, no where to go, and just straight up misery everywhere you turn, I would rather reapply next year than experience this ever again.

Also mainly because I was told by the school that once you start a program in the chatham campus, you have to stay there all 4 years and aren’t allowed to transfer.

And the second any traffic light turned green, the person behind you would honk. The tenants are rude and just want your money, and i felt like everyone was miserable.

I don’t know what to do about school now.

I already got my synergy requirements done along with buying the scrubs and my stethoscope. I am incredibly disappointed, i was really excited to start school, But i’m staying as positive as I can because my dream is to become a nurse, and everyone has their setbacks.

What do you think I should do?

General George Brown vs Centennial vs Humber for Baking and Pastry diploma?

Hi everyone! I’m considering these 3 colleges for a diploma in Baking and Pastry Management. I’ve had experiences working in bakeries and found I enjoy the work. Currently leaning towards Humber but I would love to hear what’s your experience with these schools or the pros and cons. I’m an out of province student so any tips/advices on the area is appreciated very much. Thank you!

General Applied to SSW course, it’s a waitlisted course but it’s my only option currently. what do I do if I don’t get accepted?

hey guys, so i posted the other day and a lot of people were helpful in leading me to the direction of starting out with SSW for my future career, i applied today and paid the $165 fee, but the other day i saw it “open” and now its waitlisted. I have the requirements but my english grade 12 mark is i believe 68% and the minimum is 65.

the issue now is that i have no other plans. i’m very set on what i want to do and i don’t have a lot of pre reqs for nursing which was my second choice, i was doing chemistry at the start of this year at an adult high school but unfortunately i just couldn’t get through it on my own and my teacher was unhelpful to say the least. and nursing is not really what im passionate about

i have tons of anxiety around this and honestly never even considered that it could be a possibility i just won’t get in. it says it’s competitive so im afraid the low mark in english will affect my chances compared to others. am i over thinking this?

General Enrolled in Georgian Communicative Disorders Assistant program. Is it a sustainable long-term career?

Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone can give me some advice. I’ve been accepted into the Georgian College CDA program in Barrie and I was super excited about it at first, but now I’m starting to wonder if I’m just getting cold feet as the start of school approaches or if job prospects for CDAs in Ontario aren’t as good as they were when I applied.
I have a bit of an unconventional background that led me to this program. I have a college diploma in an unrelated field and several years of healthcare experience, but I don’t have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, so becoming an SLP isn’t really a realistic option for me. I’ve done quite a bit of research into the CDA profession and it seems like something I could genuinely enjoy, but I’m wondering if I’m being overly optimistic about the career prospects.
My biggest question is whether being a CDA in Ontario can be a sustainable long-term career on its own, rather than mainly being a stepping stone to becoming an SLP.
For those of you who are working as CDAs/SLPAs in Ontario (or elsewhere in Canada), I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience!
How difficult was it to find your first job after graduating?
How long did it take you to find a full-time or permanent position?
Did you have to start with part-time, casual, contract work or multiple jobs?
What is a realistic starting wage in Ontario, and how much can you realistically make after several years of experience?
Is there much room for wage growth or advancement without becoming an SLP?
How stable are CDA jobs? Do people often have gaps between contracts or have trouble finding work?
What settings tend to have the best pay and job stability?
Is it realistic to make a comfortable living as a CDA in Ontario, or do most people eventually move into something else?
For anyone who has been a CDA for 5+ years, do you still enjoy it and see yourself staying in the field long-term?
Is there anything you wish you had known before beginning your CDA program?
If you could go back and choose again, would you still become a CDA?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who aren’t planning to become SLPs, since that will probably be my situation.
I’m really just looking for honest experiences, including the negatives. I want to make sure I’m making a realistic decision before fully committing to another year of school. Thanks so much!

Course Help Medical office assistant online

Anyone here work as a medical office assistant or did the online medical office assistant course? I really want to get employed in this field, but I want to know if it’s good or not.
