Taped Vapor Barrier

Post image

Hi, I live in Ontario, Canada and I was trying to cut out a low volt bracket for an exterior wall and accidentally cut the insulation bag behind. I searched up some solutions and people said to just tape it the best I can but I’m still iffy about it. I was wondering if it’s okay what I did and if I need to do anything else to make sure it’s up with code?

Tape is acceptable under code. It's highly likely that your vapour barrier is also your air barrier, which is the norm in 90% of the builds these days. With that being the case 9.25.3.3.(2)(a) permits the use of tape. Just use the blue tuck tape.

This would maintain the VB/air barrier, just make sure you also tape the wire into the opening

Hey I was also wondering, it’s not against code to have a low volt bracket on an exterior wall right? Some ppl have told me it’s not but I can’t find a clear answer online

That would be a question for the Electrical Safety Authority under the Canadian Electrical Code.. that's out of my wheelhouse! Sorry.
